Great video! Finally a 1:1 adult male lion "fight". It is fascinating how hesitant both the male lions are - to go all-out into the fight. They both seem to be concerned about coalition partners of their opponent arriving at any minute.

They look around similar ages and both were not committing to inflict serious damage, both had a chance to bite very hard and injure but they just pawed and gave bites to non life threatening areas, they seem to be related. Maybe cousins, grew up in the same pride or maybe even brothers, but their definitely not strangers or enemy’s.

This is the best video to display the lion's one on one fighting skills. It is a fight between 2 lions of different coalitions. Though it is not a fight to the death, there is enough animosity for a good display. Bottom line, the lion CANNOT stabilize itself on its hindlegs. The higher it gets up, the less stable and less power it can fight with. In other words, it literally has ZERO chance to win a fight with a tiger. Even a female tiger will likely kill a male lion in a fight.

I think the first lion is very worried not because his opponent but because a new lion may arrive soon. That's why he's checking his back 1:01 while trying to run away from there as soon as possible. Lions usually prefer to attack two or three against one.

Very intense, but, things weren't fatal for either lion... The coalition/pride members belonged to the Sand River Males (one male was present: an allegiance that consists of three male lions), and (the opposing side) one of the Charleston males from the Charleston Pride... The Charleston male was younger, so he took second best to the Sand River Male... In the KZbin description there is a link to the Mala Mala Blog, where the event was described in more detail...

this is not fight.. lion only really fight when take over pride or defend his pride. but all other brawls are just for testing their strength and in a way is kind of exercise for them. to be fit for fight. in this video you clearly see the front leg of one lion is in the mouth of other one. but still it can walk and no injury.. that tells all.

Not sure exactly who they are . But lion has claimed kill and eaten his fill and went off for a drink . The other guy stumbles in very hungry and starts to eat . This is a problem for the first guy ? He wants to chase new guy off . But new guy is very hungry and wont leave ! But other lion is had full belly and this is not the best way to fight nor the best motivation to fight either ! But he does any . So it's an interesting dynamic what happened here . These two were very much rivals ! And this could have been very ugly !
