Business class passengers don't have to board with everyone downstairs. There is a lift inside the lounge that leads directly to the platform and the lounge staff will call everyone for boarding 10mins before departure. Sadly there are no vegetarian options with the business class ticket, its usually a spicy chicken/fish meal.

Twenty years ago I rode on the train to butterworth it was an 11 hour overnight journey once a day. With sleeper cars hauled be a diesel locomotive. However that train derailed south of Ipoh at 1am in the morning. Hanging around in a dengue fever filled rainforest wasn't a good idea as I ended up with bloody dengue as well! This new service is a massive improvement!

Ipoh station is also very beautiful, built by the British. I used to regularly take the sleeper trains that were very convenient. But they no longer run. When I used The ferry to Penang from Butterworth, the pay machine only took old "Shilling" coins that you exchanged from a cashier. You only paid in 1 direction. Brought back many memories. The " jungle" is just palm oil plantations, but still beautiful.

We caught the old train in about 2016 and at times we could see the new line under construction. We enjoyed the trip very much, except once in the cooler hills the air-conditioning was turned off or set to a higher temperature and not put back to its earlier setting until we were nearly in KL. It was uncomfortably warm and made us drowsy. Another great video, thanks.

Not canceled. It was only postponed because the country did not want to bear billions of dollars in debt. What's the point of having HSR but the debt is huge. Malaysia is a wise country when it has reopened to implement HSR projects with private financing. This project only has a few technical things left to continue. Please be patient. Malaysia will have HSR without debt!

I've only managed to ride on KTM's Komuter service from KL to Batu Caves a couple of years ago, on the CSR Zhuzhou Class 92 trains. A weird thing I noted is, that almost all of them had multiple shattered laminated windows per car, on both my trips to KL in '17 and `18.

If I remember correctly it was caused by vandals (mainly children who weren’t taught the better) along the route. Only the laminated outer glass was shattered and it caused no danger to the passengers on board. As it takes time to replace it and they didn’t want to take it out of service just for that they decided to only fix it during scheduled major maintenance.

I think ~140 kph is the perfect balance between time and pleasure. It's the ideal speed range for leisure travellers and those who specifically take the train to enjoy the views. "Bullet trains" running double the speed are fun to ride in, but everything you see outside is sort of like a blur. I wish we had that kind of trains here just slightly northeast of Malaysia. With the exception of East Timor, we probably are the country in SE Asia with the lowest density of railways (sadly)

I have been riding ETS for a very long time. At least once a month for roundtrip KL-Butterworth with Business Class The service used to be wayyyy better than now. They slowly declined by reducing the food quality, amenities for business class, and other aspects. They also used to give earphones for those entertainment system. Things keep changing with Business Class. Also wish Business Class gets a dedicated restroom since the common one can get nasty really quick. Can't complain much since my guess this is how they actually actually maintain the ticket price to be about the same for years. Also wish Business Class would get a dedicated restroom since the common ones can get nasty really quick. I mean the ticket is double of the economy

Thank you for visiting Malaysia and reviewing about the ETS Business Class.. Some advice for visitors to Malaysia.. this train is always punctual so if you miss by one minute.. goodbye to you. The ETS business class ticket is also always sold out.. so you you have to book early. I guess I prefer this train rather than the expensive high speed train with less stop. 😅 If you want to go fast better take the plane. By the way your narration is very clear and informative. 👍

I took this journey round trip in May, and it was fabulous. One note: I booked seat 6a going north and you only have a partial window view, plus the person in row 5 in front really “controls” the blinds. I was on an 8am train and the sun was still low. I missed the view because the passenger in front closed the blind. Looked as if the uneven numbered rows all had more of a window view. But overall, a great trip and felt comfortable as a solo female traveler.

Next year, for a long trip from Singapore-Malaysian border terminal station (JB Sentral Stn.) up to Thailand-Malaysia border station (Padang Besar Stn.) We hope that KTMB will reintroduce the sleeper bed seat in their ETS express train for a different experience to their passanger. And the fare shud be less than $35
@hann659
@hann659 8 ай бұрын
Bus from Johor Baru -> Sadao/Hatyai is 120 MYR. Train fare is generally 2 times of bus fare. So you should expect 240 MYR, or 50 USD. Business class or sleeper, expect 3 times, which is 360 MYR, or 80 USD.

@@siddd88 Well, the SRT trains run on diesel. In Malaysia, diesel train fare may be low too. But there is hardly any diesel passenger train service around, so it is hard to compare. In any case, since it is going to be extinct, there is no point comparing with it. So, we will look at only electric train fare. And it is 2 times the bus fare. Even at 2 times, it is highly subsidized. By looking at how the Malaysian system works, you can expect the train fare to be higher for foreigners one day, that is, foreigners have to pay the un-subsidized fare. How much is it? I don't know. May be 50% more than 2 times? That is, 3 times.
@siddd88
@siddd88 8 ай бұрын
@@hann659 $40 standard fare. $30 for Mykad users. Will not go on it for any higher fare. It will not be competitive then. To compare wth Thailand in tourism anything must be cheap cheap n cheap to attract passangers but with high frequency to cover the cost.

The name of the operator is Keretapi Tanah Melayu, which translates to Malayan Railway, not Malaysian Railway. It is the only public service provider in Malaysia that still uses the country’s former name, and I have no idea why 😃 Nice review, though as a Malaysian, I prefer the bus over ETS. One of my highest dislikes about the service is the constantly chattering PA system making one announcement or the other, almost non-stop. Never a moment of peace.😢

May I enlighten you. Persekutuan Tanah Melayu is the old name of Malaysia. The English name is Malaya. Initially I wonder too why the KTM never changes its name But I suppose the old name is retained as manifestation on the part of govt that Malaysians remember the history of the land
