We're not Chinese Immigrants. I think that's a huge mistake on terminology. We're Chinese Malaysian citizens. There are other minority races that make up the Malaysian population although our ancestors may have come from foreign lands, we are born and bred citizens of Malaysia and are opposed to the term immigrants. This is a term used by the political party to cause a division amongst each other in Malaysia. Many of us have been Malaysians for at least 5 generations.

I just want to add few things. During the British occupation of Malaya, each ethnic groups were divided according to line of work, Malay - Administration , Chinese - Economy , Indian - Agriculture. This was to ensure there was no unity between different races in Malaya, ie, divide and conquer. Majority Chinese and Indians at the time were brought in by the British, in thousands and thousand in numbers, therefore the Malays felt they were forced accept these migrants by the British and felt threatened of their future as the native of the land. When Malaya was about gaining independence, at first the ethnic Malays did not recognise the Chinese and Indians as part of Independent Malaya and demanded them to be sent back to China and India. The British refused to give independence until the problem between different ethnic groups in Malaya resolved (which was actually started by the British in the first place). Finally, the Malays recognised Indian and Chinese nationality as Malayan (Jus Soli), but at the same time Indians and Chinese also agreed to keep the Malay privileges as part of Constitution ( later changed into Bumiputera privileges) . In the 60's and 70's, it was apparent that most Malays which made the majority of the countries were living in dirt poor condition where as most Chinese were living in the city wealthy due to their monopoly of economy since British ruling. At the time, politicians regardless of races acknowledged that this wealth gap would cause unwanted consequences if not dealt and managed. They decided to create the New Economic Plan that put a thumb in the scale on the behalf of the Malays. They hoped, by doing this it would closer the wealth gap between Malays and Chinese, and therefore prevented any riots or civil wars. However in the recent decades, during Najib administration especially, this Malay privilege had been abused by them. Anyone from UMNO could get easier access to job and contracts and etc. BN and UMNO had been using the Malay privileges to make themselves rich and so their cronies. Especially with the introduction with GST, which hurt most of lower working classes in Malaysia (Indians and Malays mostly). Finally, in this election due to so many injustice done by UMNO (plus Najib's scandals and corruption) in the recent decades, people unanimously decide to ditch BN and chose the Alliance of Hope instead. The rest of the story are still unfolding as we speak....
@amirulfarhan9196 жыл бұрын
Adi Ahmad that's really true
@kualarompin5896 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. KZbin normally is not the best place to explain these kinds of things, I tried to be concised as possible, looking things from history perspectives. When I was studying in the U.K there were some Europeans argued/dissing me for the Malay privileges. I realised these Europeans did not know the full history, only certain facts. Some even accused Malaysia for practising apartheid. And I would argue otherwise as the Malay/Bumi privileges were agreed upon by all different races at the time, and put into the constitution. The minorities, their rights are still protected, they are still allowed to go to school, universities or government sectors, it is just for Malays, we have MRSM, more likely to get a job or a house, especially married couples. Plus in apartheid states, it is the minority that controlled everything and denying the right of the majority like what happened in South Africa and Israel. I do hope Malaysia changing for a better, focusing on helping and elevating lives of the poor Malaysians, all the races, does not matter if they are Malays, Chinese, Indians, Asli, Kadazan, Bidayuh, Milanau etc. Investing on people is one of the way to make Malaysia a better country.

@shiinaai29786 жыл бұрын
Indeed, Mahathir has always acted in the best interest (in his belief) of the country. Unlike others who did things for personal greed, he's done all he could to fulfill his vision of a modern Malaysia. In many ways, he succeeded. Sure his rule was rife with cronyism, but for the most part, his cronyism worked. Samy Vellu helped modernize Malaysian infrastructure, despite how many people hated him and called him the Toll Minister. Rafidah helped improve Malaysian industry, and despite the accusations that she used personal connections, what she did worked. Zety Aziz helped stabilize Malaysian currency and her forward thinking helped stabilize Malaysia during Najib's time when the currency devalued sharply and threatened to reach RM6 for every USD1. There are many other people who are included in accusation's of Mahathir's cronyism that did great stuff for Malaysia, but these three are the most memorable to me. Mahathir from the very start is a nationalist, and perhaps he fell into the traps of fascism in the last days of his rule as he realize that his Vision 2020 is getting harder to achieve with so many opposition even in his own party. But he has now returned, probably with a broader picture and understanding of what he did wrong the last time.

I think we will eventually let go of this mindset as time goes on, Malaysia is still a young country after all, 60 years is a short time in history compared to 200 years of US history, which has worse racism than us. Dr Mahathir (MD) may be autocratic. but during his time, he changed sleepy malaysia into one of asia econimic tiger. There were less racial tension, because he will just shut ppl up. Harsh, but effective. Radicalisation was also neutralize, thats why you dont hear any terorism attacks in malaysia. Despite the racial/religioun dynamics, we had economic stability, people are just chill, we feel safe, we are proud. All this change when Mahathir retires. 15 years after that malaysia goes to the dog with a sleepy prime minister (literally). when Mahathir shove the sleepy PM to the side, it was only to be taken over by a kleptocrat. We are seriously tired of all this. But now mahathir is back, he can just stay as long as he is able to. After 2 useless prime minister, I simply dont trust anyone else besides Mahathir.
@susbedo92586 жыл бұрын
I concur with you. It is also evident from the quality of Ministers that Najib appointed. A far cry from the type of Ministers that Mahathir used to appoint and work with. Malaysia was in absolute shambles under Najib's rule. He has zero regard for the country and he was only interested in looting the country dry and stay in power. As for Mahathir, while he was autocratic by some means, but has always put Malaysia's interest on the top of his agenda. Lew Kuan Yew is a prime example of a autocratic leader that is very similar as Mahathir in many ways. But that is the crux of politics, if your economy is doing well and the citizen are not suffering - nobody cares for institutional reform until massive abuse really happens. Singapore will go through the same thing if they don't have a good PM after Lee Hsien Loong and I do hope they don't have to go through the same nightmare we had to endure the past 10 years.

yep, Joseph Liow Chin Yong was right. Up until now, Malaysians do not have a single assimilation point other than hatred for najib. They are not even culturally assimilated. (i.e speaking the same language) & I guess, not willing to. With no more Najib in the government, the challenge is just started. and also. that's why it is quite hard for outsiders to differentiate a Malaysian cititzen with Chinese immigrants. Compared to Thailand & Indonesia, it is easier to recognize chinese immigrants in the country as Thais/Indonesian people first. Thus the mistake of calling Malaysian Chinese as a Chinese immigrants is hard to avoid. Kindly please just call us Malaysians in future :) Thanks for the great video.

Anwar wasn't mysteriously charged. When he wanted to use IMF's plan to refomr the economy, Mahathir disagreed, after which Anwar launched his bid to become President of UMNO (Mahathir's position inthe party) and if he won, he'd become the PM. That's when Anwar was arrested for corruption and sodomy charges.
@ameerulaqmalmalek94706 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Not many people know that.. they only thought anwar goes to prison because of the sodomy allegations.. haha, Noted one thing, POLITICS IS A SURVIVE GAME..

I agree

This is different opinions between Anwar and Mahathir. I agreed not to take aid from IMF but you can’t say it a was dumb idea back then. Look at South Korea who took aid from IMF They managed it well and they survive.

Politics can change and evolve in a blink of an eye. Nothing is set in stone; friends can be enemies; there's no total good or total evil. It was something necessary at the time.
@ulfricstormcloak71426 жыл бұрын
Kcalb Suriv Tun M is the real boss. You think that most of UMNO losses were just simply because people want PH? Nope. It's because Tun M that people wish to cast their vote for them. Coz Tun still have influence on many people, especially a good numbers of UMNO members itself. No Tun, no win.

The chinese ethic or indian ethic are NOT IMMIGRANTS. Please reconfirm the definition of "IMMIGRANTS" in dictionary. Definition of "IMMGRANT": a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country. AND ALSO RE-STUDY MALAYSIA HISTORY AT LEAST FROM MALACCA ERA!!

Check back history facts bro..Chinese and Indian was immigrant before Merdeka. They are NOT citizens of Malaya at that time. British only recognize Malays as citizen of Malaya.. You know that "Malay reserved land" laws was introduce by British? Know why British do that? That because to prevent Chinese and Indian immigrant hold the right of owning land in Malaya.

Strange because you don't understand the culture and belief system. Anwar was a Malay Anthropology student and a Muslim Democrat, and you can call him an Islamist (of the progressive kind). Being a Malay, he would avoid controntation. Being a pious and learned Muslim, he has been taught to forgive when forgiveness is asked from him. If you follow his political career and all his speeches, every once in a while you'd hear him say "Nevermind that, let bygone be bygone, I have forgiven ________ (insert a name), but rights for the people need to be reclaimed.". He never hold his grundge. This same attitude can be seen among MPs in Parliaments. They could have been trading insults in the Lower House for hours, but later sit next to each other during tea break at the lobby sharing jokes. Muslims aren't allowed to let quarells last for more than 3 days. Relationship has to be mended witihn 3 days. At the very least the 2 quarelling parties need to communicate.
