I'm glad you reacted to this film. Your commentary reveals a limited understanding of American history. For example, when you say that Malcolm's father "should have killed them..." referring to the Klansmen who burned his home, this would have been a death sentence for his entire family. Thousands and thousands of Black people were lynched for knowing their place". For example, when Joe Louis won the boxing championship, many Black men were lynched just because some whites feared that they would start to think too much of themselves. Imagine your father, brother, uncle, cousin, murdered because of an athlete's success..... and no murderer ever being brought to justice simply because... they could.

The fact that there's only four reactions to this monolithic film on youtube, is tragic. The fact that Denzel doesn't have an Oscar for it, is garbage. But thank you for watching it, friend. I saw Malcolm X in a packed theatre in '92 and never forgot it.
@lionezz344 ай бұрын
I thought the same, craziness. Speaking of the oscar, yeah, he should've gotten it for this for sure. The question is, what did he get the oscar for??? A corrupt cop saying the n word all the time. Speaks volumes doesn't it???

Denzel gave a lot to this role of playing Malcom and he should have won an oscar, but the film proved that Hollywood as progressive as they may claim to be about talking about racism are not. But Spike and Denzel awoke the country with this film and reminded us that their were spiritual giants, advocators for change who lived, walked, spoke amongst us who were not afraid to give their lives for right in the midst of so much wrong against people of color, not only in this country but around the world. Malcom was a mirroring force and there are so many discussions that can be had about his life, his role, his testament in this movement to rid the world of this infection that divides us.

32:20 in his autobiography, Malcolm X wrote his reaction was one of his biggest regrets!!! Had he saw her again, he woulda given her a different answer, according to him.

'You are one of only 2 channels I've seen react to this film. As a young child attending PW schools I HATED Black history month because the images I saw were so disempowering. In the 10th grade I moved across the country. I had a Biology teacher who went out of his way to teach us many things about life. One day he asked us what we thought of Malcolm X. When a student said "Wasn't he a civil rights leader?" our teacher frowned. He gave us an assignment on that Friday, to write a one page paper on Malcolm X. I was an avid reader I read the biography on Saturday, wrote the paper on Sunday and have never been the same. He sparked a curiosity that has led me to so many wonderful discoveries. I'm glad you're watching this..... even if I am late to your reaction.

This was a tour de force performance for Denzel Washington. Spike Lees direction was amazing. This movie captured the evolution of Malcolm very well. I have seen small periods of his philosophy presented as the totality. He was assassinated when his philosophy diverged from earlier positions. The cinematography was stunning. I am glad that you watched it.😊

I must say, I really appreciate your take on this.The criticism against and admittedly voicing what you did or didn't know. As a native black american, to hear a different perspective is unheard of. Because so much in this country is black/white. So, I appreciate your perspective and you gained a subscriber. ❤

I’m so glad you watched this. In my mind (as a so-called middle aged white woman), it’s one of the best performances ever on film. The other would be Jamie Foxx in Ray. Stupendous!

Another great perspective from the civil rights era is James Baldwin (subject of excellent documentary "I Am Not Your Negro"). He was a great writer who wrote of his meeting with Elijah Mohammed and what he saw of the black Muslim movement, its strengths and weaknesses. Looking forward to your Selma reaction! ☮️

This was a great reaction. I appreciate your perspective on this movie. It's one of my favorites. I first saw in the Apollo Theater in Harlem where a lot of the movie was filmed. I remember being afraid to even use the bathroom because I might miss something. I still tear up every time I see his assassination and during the last few minutes. I still think Denzel was robbed of an Oscar that year.
@theghettoracle4 ай бұрын
Yes, Denzel took a serious method approach in portraying Malcolm; Denzel spent plenty of time with Malcolm's siblings, took on a Muslim diet and learned Arabic. Still the most controversial robberies of the Oscars snubbing Denzel in 1992 despite being nominated.
@AffanReacts4 ай бұрын
that's pretty cool, and tbh honest, don't care about the oscars, we know he is great and I think for Denzel at least that is good enough, but if the awards is truly supposed to be "awarded" the best then yeah he should have had it. Btw just out of curiosity, what exactly do you mean by a muslim diet?

I'm from Germany, forgive my bad English!I noticed that you quickly form an opinion about the film and didn't watch this masterpiece calmly and then form an opinion. This is a general problem with reaction videos, so there's only so much you can do about it. But it is very important to watch a film completely and then form a correct opinion! Of course it's wrong to call all white people devils, but in Malcolm's time black people were treated like filthy animals, who wouldn't hate the other side to the core? and there we see Malcolm x's strength again, he has changed and looks at everyone the same. By the way, the best Spike Lee film... there are other masterpieces by him too!! for example bamboozled!!!!!

This was an all time performance Denzel was amazing! The way Spike Lee directed this movie and the amount of information he was able to convey was pretty incredible. The Nation is way different than Islam because it has to take in what’s happening specifically to black ppl in America. What’s interesting is Elijah Muhammad’s words saved Malcolm’s life and his words along with the FBI assassinated him. I mean think about why the government wanted to killed every positive black leader with the oratory skill to reach the masses. Fred Hampton, Medgar Evers, MLK, Malcolm X etc. And just to make this clear MLK message in that time was still hated, because while MLK did preach unity, he was most definitely speaking for and to black ppl. MLK just like Malcolm was fighting for reparations cause.. I mean look at the median wealth gap.

46:50 i believe that Spike Lee commented in the dvd that the ominous figure looking over from the car was not intentional. Yes, there was supposed to be a car there, but he was looking over to monitor the distance between his car and the car Denzel was traveling in.

The Nation of Islam was a political organization that was shrouded in the religion of Islam. Yet not the true religion of Islam. The precursor to the Black Panthers...which left the religious BS aside.

I'm sorry but there is no thing as "black supremacy" because yt ppl are the power structure. All we do is exist. We don't have a lot of power when it comes to certain government positions.
@ojar918 ай бұрын
Noi preached hate towards whites in America and think they are above whites, that is black supremacy, yes they teach people to respect themselves, and uplift their mentality, but blacks are not above whites and whites are not above blacks. Black supremacy is no different from white supremacy.

You may not look at these comments i hope you see this. This movie is extremely accurate to Malcolm's life. The only things they changed for the movie as brother banes character saving him in prison when in real life that was another person and west indian archies character also being Malcolm's criminal mentor if you will when in real life that was a few different people. Other than that they changed virtually nothing from his autobiography except dropping things that didnt matter as much to the story like more details about his childhood with his mother, more about his time with thoes foster parents, moving to boston and living with his sister, and how he didn’t like the black elites of that area who his sister was one, how he met laura and other intresting details that would have thrown off the pacing if they kept in. If you enjoy reading and learning more i can not recommend his autobiography enough. Although you may not find any major difference between the book and the movie like you may in many biopics, the book adds so much detail, context and expands on Malcolm's thoughts about many issues

The nation of islam was very controversial to both Christian and Muslim African Americans so your frustration is shared. However, I wouldnt dismiss the racist population of the US as just a small minority. From political polling, 15-20% of white Americans hold strong racist viewpoints. Thats 40-50 million bigots, not counting those sympathetic to their arguments, meaning there is a racist individual for every black person in America.
