I've taken pretty much all of the life gain out of all of my commander decks. Even the +1 from a land or some random creature will inspire someone to swing at you. The only thing I have left are the powerful late game stuff

I agree.. everybody in my pod always gets so antsy when I play karumonix into 2 rats in turn three... It always ends with the Chishiro/Ghired Player as the winner, because he just plays defense all the time until he rolls over us. Or Esix kills the whole table within one turn because of Ezuri's Predation or some other bomb.

I was playing a game once with Tatyova Bethnic Druid and one of my opponents has Delina Wildmage, some shaman thing that doubles her ability and the thing she's copying makes people sacrifice permanents when it ETB. The black player saved his removal spell for my commander dropping on my now empty board with all my mana tapped out because he was more scared of me drawing cards in the future than he was of the delina player having 15-20 damage to dish out and making everyone sacrifice 2-3 more permanents the next turn. His reasoning was "someone else might have removal for delina"

Tried once i stumbled really hard with mana in a game, and one of the players just decided to go for me hard, all in every turn. The only thing I had to kill his commander was a magus of the abyss in my hand, the opponent to my left who had to sacrifice one of her creatures to my magus got angry that I made her sacrifice a creature and killed my magus of the Abyss. Instead of the 15/15 commander the guy left to her had. Then I died on the next turn, and the guy with the big commander won, as nobody did anything to stop him, but my only way of surviving, was the real threat.

And then there's my archimandrite deck which plays 2 or 3 non monk/advisor but all it takes is 1 cast of beacon of immortality/akromas will and the game is over, it's warrented for that deck for people to be scared of the lifegain

This. This is also what people do with Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, except that I think she (rightfully) draws more ire. Doesn’t stop me from playing her. I think I probably wouldn’t care that much about Obzedat with most of my decks, but most of them have a lot of ways to win against ridiculous life gain so it doesn’t bother me. Requesting Xyris roast, but honestly just keep doing what you do!

in my early commander days, cards like this & the therosian gods were the commanders I usually went up against, & my janky lil dragon deck couldn't really handle it. I blame those people on why my first arguably good deck was basically 40 basic swamps, skittles in the command zone, & the words "fuck off" written in every conceivable language I could muster

Mood. I have two control decks, Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts and Nicol Bolas, the Ravager, the development of which was HEAVILY influenced by my little brother's Sliver Overlord and Najeela decks. Each is PACKED with both targeted removal and boardwipes. He has since decommissioned both decks, but Teysa and Bolas both still have the ability to control 4-5 person pods due to those decks.

So I made a mistake using Obzedat as a commander for a deck for a friend. His deck was an accident of cards I threw together that seemed like they’d work well together. Did not think for a second the possibility of Peer Into the Abyss and Otekra’s Last Mercy would be a terrible idea, but it most certainly was. We also like to call him AutoDan, Ghost Council of Dans because it’s way funnier to us while he’s leeching our life away.
