Maldives St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort Snorkeling Around Coral Shelf

We took a bit of a risk snorkeling around the north edge of the coral shelf of the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort. The water was a bit rough and shallow to get outside the rock barrier / wave break. We would highly discourage weak swimmers and novice snorkelers from attempting. Fins are necessary. Start by swimming at high or rising tide for depth and against the current to conserve energy. Once at the shelf there is an abundance of life with a wide variety and quantity of fish and coral. We did see one shark low below the shelf line. If something happened, I am not sure how/if we would have recovered or been rescued. Be careful and always swim with a buddy.
