I can’t speak for all women out there but I would assume majority of us would appreciate it more if the guy would communicate his feelings clearly rather than having us figure it out. A lot of us tend to overthink mixed signals, but I guess it goes for guys too. :) communication and comprehension of what is being communicated is very important.

Most mature women are willing to give men who show clear interest in them (respectfully of course) a chance even though they may initially not be interested in them. On a side note, the way that han ji pyeong confessed to dal mi was super shimkoongs because it showed that he's not clingy and that he's confident in himself, which is VEERRYY attractive.

yes yesss he's so selfless!its so underrated these days i agree its okay to express your feeling. BUT you should find a way to not give a burden of ur 'own' feeling to other ppl. that's being so egotistical. i say this because i never had long lasting friendship with my boy friends. bcs they ended up liking me. i dont feel happy and rather feel uncomfortable. because their acts always put pressure on me. and smh even bothering my privacy. i thought they were sincere to me. i always respect friendship. cause its not easy for me to hv friendship(i hv trust issues). and i always act extremely different with guy i like. i never want to make guy confuse abt who they are to me. im very cautious abt it. means, when they act like that when they know that. they are just don't have respect for you. they only care about their own feeling. they dont hv respect for ur relationship. why would choose someone like that at the 1st place. also means someone like jipyeong is rare. and people still think liking someone is all about expressing ur own feeling as much as u like?

confession conducted in this way is not only the most respectful thing to do but also charming. Even if you don´t see the person confessing as a potential partner, in my eyes, he deserves a clear answer and a friendship offer. you do not want to miss out on someone like this.

Tiki, if you aren't in that yet zone then you just aren't interested. Im assuming if he was mature enough to know it and see it as well. Dont waste time with emotional investment nor drag each other on an unpaved road. Not saying 2 can't be pushed into a friend zone and hang out. And that's ok. Assuming from Jason's partial story he shares, we are left with alot of questions. Is he just talking about meeting someone perhaps after 1 date or 2 and want to let her know he wants to "be one" right away or after some time? Quick confession is not a bad thing but it would have to be natural as well. It also lets the other party know where u two stand. Jason seems prepared for any outcome. It just seems he does not want to invest his time which is totally ok if she doesn't show sign so he rather want to know where they are headed. Just dont be overeager nor too desperate where it can turn a girl off. And yes, communication is a start BUT Effective communication is key.

In my opinion, the reason for Jipyeong's confession is different. It is not solely for the sole purpose of telling Dalmi his feelings. At that moment Dalmi was in huge confusion. She feels betrayed and fooled. She couldn't tell how far the lies went and whether everything that she felt and experienced are reals. That's why Jipyeong confessed. Telling her that even though the letter is started with lies, his kindness to her is real. Because he loves her. At that time his priorities were Dalmi's well being. As Kim Seonho explained in his interview, Jipyeong is older than Dalmi, so he tried to make Jipyeong considerate, the compose one that not trying to impose on his feelings to her. He focused only on comforting her. That's why he said he didn't expect that he would actually confess while mixing noodles. That scene was brilliantly executed and really beautiful. You'd realize how mature Jipyeong actually is.

I’m a married guy in my 50s - From my life experience, life is short, opportunities are few, don’t wait for ‘the right’ moment, express yourself politely, patiently, give your listener time to respond, perhaps in a few days/weeks if they need to. Practice the ‘ golden rule.’ Move on, if your feelings are neither reciprocated nor respected. 👍😉

In ref. to Han Jipyeong’s confession, I would appreciate the sincerity and the boldness. If I had known the guy for a while, and know how he is, I would sincerely evaluate my feelings towards the possibility of dating him, also it would shift my attention for sure. But if its like a sogeting or just meeting for the first time then having to be confessed to like this... I would not be so sure, because it would mean he hasn’t put in the effort to get to know the why’s behind those words “i like you” especially if its in the context of dating the person.

A guy confessed exactly like this to me. He was very straightforward. He told me he likes me but that he felt I was too young at that time. i was 19 and he was 25. He then said that he was going to pursue me one day and marry me. I had zero feelings for him. Plus he was my brother’s best friend. I was sooo not interested. I continued on with life, dated other guys etc, never gave him a second thought. Though I would see him all the time when I was around my brother. 10 years later he started pursuing me hard and I fell for him. We are now married with 2 beautiful children.

i feel like i would want someone i like to be assertive and tell me clearly whether they like me or not, assertive but not in an aggressive way nor do i want them to propose a momentum. their intention has to be clear too. i feel like that would really set someone apart from others who may be less assertive and extremely wishy washy or unsure of their feelings, it's because of this that i never dated because lots of the people i liked were unsure of themselves and i dont have time for that, maybe it's about being scared of commitment but i really hate wasting time so.

100% agree that it’s always refreshing to have someone be straightforward cause girls overthink like crazy and would appreciate some clarity. However, I also feel that guys should watch the signs and if you can tell the girl is obviously not interested, think twice cause the confession could feel very 부담스러워요. The way Han Jipyeong did it was perfect though cause he put it out there but was clear that it was just him being honest and that he wasn’t expecting anything from her.

I think it's better to ACT with interest (caring gestures) than be straight forward, I feel that it can be a turn down SOMETIMES depends on the case. When the guy is that direct it's probably because he thinks he already did something, but isn't sure about the girl's feeling...

Ji-Pyeong, Do-San and Chul-San made powerful moves because they showed how man could be in touch with their emotion and transparent about that. (I wonder why conventional wisdom often think the opposite. LOL) Showing emotion with a calm manner is not a sign of weakness but a sign of maturity. Ji-Pyeong's move is heart fluttering because he confess without expectation (when he knows she already likes Do-San) but with honesty, and to give her a closure (since she was confused by his actions). When a man takes effort to explain his sophisticated passion ( ie about AI and teeth), I am sure the women would appreciate his effort and passion. Watching this video feels like binge watching startups with friends. Feel down to earth.

Maybe it is my upbringing and coming from a conservative and traditional family. Everyone has their preferences on how they like to be approached. For me, I have come to appreciate men who take things slow and are thoughtful and creative in providing trails of hints rather than the immediate "in your face" I like you. I believe that if you have known each other for a long time, definitely make it known to her that you do have feelings for her. :)

One thing that was frustrating was trying to figure out if the person liked me as just a friend or a potential partner. People need to learn how to communicate properly and stop assuming that people are mind readers. One major thing for me as I grew older was telling people exactly what I wanted out of a relationship and making sure that they were on the same page as me. Which is how I ended up finding my partner after hundreds of first dates.

The fact that he considered me worth the effort, giving me time to decide and to get to know him better, gets so much respect from me. For the second scene, it would actually confuse me. I’ve known guys to do this, but it turned out they didn’t like me. They were just being friendly and it’s sooo frustrating. I definitely appreciate the openness and honesty of the guys in the first and the last scene. And yes, that last scene. While it’s good for a guy to give someone time and space, he also needs to have that self respect to say, “Enough is enough. I can’t wait around forever for you to make up your mind.” Eventually he’s going to need to move on if she’s undecided. Kudos to him for speaking up! I’ve heard guys complain that girls don’t give them straight answers-but they don’t ask straight questions, either! I’ve actually gotten to the point that I will answer the question at face value. “Oh, you want to call me? You know, no one ever calls me. I’m an introvert, so please don’t.” “Oh, you want to meet up so you can help me improve my abilities with speaking your language? I have native speakers around me that I don’t practice with and wouldn’t want to waste your time.” Y’all need to talk to these guys… They need help… 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

There has to be a spark before the fires of passion can appear. Sometimes the spark that starts the affection in the female is a straight out obvious declaration of affection from the man.

I really like the conversations you two have, very insightful. Love Davichi! ❤️ Personally, I like taking it slow with relationships. Getting to know each other an such, building a friendship, before getting into a relationship. I don't think it will be a waste of time if the right person comes.

I thank you guys for your comments on the actions and logical interpretations of the moves of the Actors in the episodes, I am learning from your comments too. I also like the script of Start up because they are so well thought of and taught the viewers about honesty and being courageous in facing up to people, issues or situations, it does made me realized that "I should have done that !" feeling...Kudos and two thumbs up to both of you...VESSI / JBRO

As a girl, I would enjoy a confession similar to how Han Ji Pyeong said it in the beginning. He said it respectfully and was not forcing the girl to make a decision, rather to just let her know. As a girl, when I get a feeling that a guy likes me, but that guy ends up not confessing at all, it makes me very frustrated because I don't want him to keep treating me so nice and wasting his efforts on me.

Long essay that y'all said y'all read lol: First off, love all the OSTs - it's making me miss all the kdramas especially CLOY! and DOTS While watching this, I also realize how much we don't get to hear men speak about these topics, especially on the internet! Because doing so, I feel like it takes a lot of vulnerability, which is actually power! Guys who are honest and upfront about their feelings are definitely preferable because everything is clear, even if the relationship doesn't progress. It shows how serious and genuine a person is. plus it just creates so much more mutual understanding than miscommunication which will end up with both people losing a chance to be with one another. I've been in that situation before where a nice guy was very interested in me, but I wasn't. He never made anything clear, especially his feelings but I made my clear "no" to him already. In doing so, I thought I should just be nice to him, even while knowing his true intentions bc I didn't want to hurt his feelings. Turns out being nice to him and always telling him that we can just be friends made no progress. In a way he understood it, but he also just kept trying to pursue the relationship, which I respect him for bc he has good intentions, but I did not feel it. Deep down, he thought that if he kept being nice to me, one day I'll reach an epiphany and run to him. I just didn't see myself with him. so I ended up unfriending him, which sounds harsh, but it was really my only way for me to draw my line so he can SEE IT. I still feel bad that I did that, but what was I suppose to do? Force myself? But again, I still do give him credit and respect for trying. I felt like if anything, he wasn't giving himself any respect and was wasting his time on me when I knew some awesome girls would want to have him as a partner (The heart wants what it want) lol Sorry for the huge essay - it's been a while since I've talked about this!

Really liked this! I felt a good amount of Jason challenging John to flesh out his opinions (not just John challenging Jason which I feel like is more usual). There were more layers in the conversation and your bro relationship is much cuter when balanced! I do think that feelings need to develop over time; you have to really get to know a person before you decide whether you truly like them. It's easy to superficially think you are into someone just based on strong fleeting moments or physical attractiveness, but who they really are doesn't actually come out in full form until a bit later. To that end, some girls are more cautious than others because of either past experiences or innate personality. So it's not as much that the directness of "I like you, balls in your court" is the problem - it's the amount of time and depth in the interactions leading up to that decision. Once you have that build up though, the directness itself I think is always preferred.

Loved the show Start up! It’s not complicated guys, girls/women like an honest, kind, caring person, who shows and communicates it. Han was hard on Dalmi acted like big brother/mentor and Dosan was kind, a friend for crying out loud he walked her to work, who wouldn’t like that! ❤️😃

About Mr. Han: agree! Absolutely go after your heart’s desire and sooner! my guy and I wanted more from him and expected him to make a move sooner or at least when Dosan went away. While a man or woman’s earnest admission to love is never guarantee requited or even swaying the odds in their favor, both ppl win in the end- one gets the ultimate compliment and the other, catharsis of no regrets- as you’d mentioned. About Dosan: yes, the technical boring convos work bc that’s who the person is on a day to day, if there is no obvious air or trying to prove or make up for lacking. Passion is attraction. About the friend: “any man can have any woman so long as he keeps trying”- paraphrased. Sorry dunno where I took that from but I’d tweek it to any man can win any woman’s heart if he makes her realize she’s of utmost importance to him. Ty for being so entertaining & thoughtful.

I came to a conclusion that honesty, being genuine and confident really shows how attractive a person can be. Maybe I just admire people who are willing to take the risk and try instead of waiting around for something to happen & regret when it’s too late, just like what Jason said which resulted in so many missed opportunities. 신쿵 moments do help hahaha But then again, it depends on a person’s personality where they rather miss opportunities and keep it in their hearts or just being upfront & straightforward.

I am a huge fan of these moments of vulnerability and openness to greater honesty & intimacy, and certainly wish there were more of this gentle but sincere form of communication going on in the world, as we would all be better off for it. Calm sincerity & respectfully allowing (literal and figurative) time & space for the other person to react sincerely, as well, are essential & effective approaches when hoping to convey interest & further develop true long-lasting intimacy - talking from one’s heart versus the head (or other parts 😆) - not “moves” or games or strategies - but sincerity & intention. One also needs to be aware that they are confessing, or clarifying, for *their* benefit - not for that of the other person - and therefore needs to be prepared to encourage/allow the other person to respond in a way most authentic to *their* current position as well. 💞

True story: I’ve dated guys who’ve checked all my boxes, but were not very assertive about their emotions. Very frustrating. Yet a guy who didn’t check any of my boxes that was very straightforward, takes initiative, and treats me right, made me fall more for him over time. For me personally, I totally agree with John. I think the guy should calculate the timing but also stay true to his feelings and appeal to her with actions. I think guys should still pursue knowing there’s a risk. It says a lot about his character.

I would literally LOVE to have a man straightforwardly say "I like you" in a straightforward manner. The dating culture here is so weird and hookup centric that I feel like it has become this cat and mouse game of "who likes the other person less wins" which is honestly exhausting. Also, modern dating being what it is thanks to apps I feel like it's super hard in your 30s to like someone so much you date them instead of dating someone UNTIL you like them. I haven't had a crush on someone since my mid twenties.

Totally agree with John on the waiting part heheh It can take time to a girl to know the guy and see if he's what she's looking for in someone. Once a collegue confessed to me, but I didn't know much about him, he almost never talked, so I said we could know each other better as friends BEFORE anything, but he didn't like it and never spoke to me again. HE WAS 16, so young!... So, I guess with maturity you could wait, right?!

Feeling conflicted between talking about start up and hearing DOTS soundtrack. Lmao I can't focus!!! This drama gave me so much comfort. The transparency, communication, and character development! Communicating, listening, and understanding/respecting one's feelings are so important to me. Like HJP, if I don't reciprocate, just giving me words that you don't want your words to be a burden and don't want the relationship to change is so mature from a man

Been in that situation tho, there's this guy of my work colleague I had crush for like half year and his action kept confusing me. One day he kept doing silly things and joking around with me and made me flutter (which I didn't see he did to other girl as much as to me), one day he took hours just to reply my message, one day he agreed when I asked him to go for a movie just two of us, one day he didn't care at all when I was hospitalized for my ankle surgery. And I felt super horrible because I was in dilemma whether I had to keep pursuing this guy but it hurt a lot, or stop and move on but the chance of losing this guy as a friend is also high (because in general he's a good guy and me being selfish wanted to keep him on my circle). In the end after so many nights of consideration, I was like f*ck it and just told him how I felt towards him. By that time I already let it go if he had to leave from my life then just leave. And yeah at that moment he rejected me. And I can tell he felt so bad for rejecting me. We didn't talk for about a month and were awkward near each other (since we were in the same company), but after a while we started talking and just be friends. Now we both have our own relationship but we still keep things cool. But I thought I was quite lucky tho this guy rejected me in mature and calm way so it didn't hurt that much. Sorry for my super long story but just gonna tell anyone, if you are having crush on someone, in my personal opinion just let them know. Worst case is just your confession is gonna push him/her away, but that's it, still worth than feeling horrible and pain for not being able to figure out if s/he's gonna reciprocate or not. And I feel the regret would be bigger not doing the action (confessing) rather than doing the action. xD

This happened to me with a now-ex boyfriend. I didn't see them as a potential interest before, but after they told me their feelings I started to see them that way. Initially when they told me, I told them to see how things go together, didn't give a clear answer and kept spending time with them. We were dating a month later. So, I think it works. Especially if the girl didn't contemplate the possibility before, it's a good way to not get friend-zoned.
