I can't count the number of times this has happened. We just ignore the landowners except to give a quiet chuckle when their faces start turning red. Ignoring Karens makes steam come out of their ears. Every fisherman knows that people pay exorbitant prices for a view of the water. And we also know that what you ACTUALLY bought was a view of guy like me sitting in a leaky boat with a cold beverage in my hand. Cheers! 😂

In my town, a bunch of assholes built homes right on the river in a flood plane, and then tried to sue the city or county(can't remember which) when their homes were flooded.

@@greedo2660 That makes as much sense as people fleeing municipal taxation and diversity, harassing fish and wildlife agencies for failing to keep the deer and scavengers off of their property, which is a thing that actually happens.

@@greedo2660 Where I live hundreds of idiots built houses on a mountain that actually has a gravel quarry on the other side of it. They then act surprised when their million dollar homes begin to slide down the mountain because it's made of gravel and after years the support sometimes gives out. And then they want to sue. Dude you built a house on a mountain of gravel and you knew it because they've been digging it out of there for like 30 years. And on top of that it's right on a major fault line. When a big earthquake hits they are all going to come sliding down. The things people will do for a pretty view.

In my state, not only can you not privatize public waterways, you also have to provide an easement for access. Yet I see private property signs everywhere on the river. Like the Clash says: Know your rights!
@ericwilliams1659
@ericwilliams1659 2 жыл бұрын
That sucks. Because than you have to let people walk through your private land. In my state, yes the rivers/lakes are public but you don't have to let anyone access it on your land. Sadly all the farm land run off makes it so you do really want to eat the fish if you catch.
@evilsharkey8954

Sagacious …:You might wanna be really careful saying that stuff. You can come across like you’re making a threat that you’re willing to do something harmful to somebody in their sleep. Especially if you’ve got BLM in your name. That organization got a real bad rap a couple of years ago for burning down homes and attacking people at night during the protests. It’s not hard to track people down by their. usernames etc, and you’re an individual making these comments, so it makes you easy to charge. Just saying. And the other thing about that is, it’s just talk. You don’t threaten to go to somebody’s house and do a number on them while they sleep because you don’t like what they said or how they said it. That makes no sense. Especially when he let them make a phone call and make a fool of themselves in front of the cops when the police show up to tell the guy that he’s wrong and that he has no leg to stand on.

In some places, there’s no legal right to block access to the waterways via land. So while some people will try and fence off all the area right down into the water, they can’t legally do it. Because historically it was used as transportation And an important source for food, so the people need access.

The daily dot article gets this backwards. The law isn't what makes the water navigable. The fact the water is navigable (traversable by boat, etc) is what makes it public property. As for the second person, often the shoreline doesn't count as private property, or reasonable exceptions exist for its use. It's likely the fence line was already the edge of the surveyed property, anyway.

'"i'm calling the police". i'm like "go ahead, you're wrong." after 5 minutes i left, i didn't want any police encounter to make me late for work. dude gave me the death stare as i left, i waved just to piss him off even more.

In 99% of states almost all waterways like rivers, dams, lakes, etc are public domain when your on the water in a boat and in some places it counts the shore line as public too. For a lake area to be private in most states it has to be a fully contained water supply where the owner has containment of all the water like a pond or lake. But most streams, creeks, rivers, reservoirs, etc, where the water enters and leaves cannot be private by definition from the state where they own the water and its public. This is because the water is moving thru and up or downstream their usually is public access. Sadly as a fisherman, myself I've dealt with this identical situation of people yelling at me for being in a boat on a river.

It happens…a lot. Next door neighbor got upset that someone had the nerve to park in front of their house on a public street. Had cops called on a friend and I because we were riding our bicycles on “their” street.

Why do people that live on lake front property believe they own the lake? My sister lives on a lake…she knows the lake IS NOT HERS…therefore she makes no qualms about people that fish there.

Usually weirdos in boats on watch for any houses to rob. Happened to an aunt of mine in Florida so all the neighbors now shoo away any stranger that is near them fishing.

Yeah... fishermen are always asking my mother permission to fish in "her" trout stream. They gotta know (and she knows, as all land stewards should) that she doesn't own the water, but they're probably trying to avoid confrontation with ignorant a-holes like the guy in the video.

When these fishermen actually do trespass, and it happens, things can get out of hand real quick. I live on a lake, and have a dock. There are people fishing around my property all day, everyday. Most are just fishing, and I've got no problem with that. However, some will come, and climb on my dock, and then start looking around at my gear. That's when it gets tricky. I've had the entire gas tank stolen off my pontoon boat while it was parked in my dock. I've got friends who have had their fish finders stolen off their boats, and people who have had their boats stolen. Once they get out of the boat, and walk on someone else's property, everything changes.
