Fighting her after years and many playthroughs of just skipping her with a Royal Knights Resolve Claymore build as I prep for DLC. Was getting so pissed last night that I was thinking of respeccing just for this fight. Your video made me think otherwise. See so many people talking about baiting waterfowl dance with throwing knives or resorting to other weird methods. Maybe it’s after playing every other souls game melee-only, but I just refuse. Gonna beat this amputee leukemia patient with claymore only if it’s the last thing I do.

Hell yes brother! I know how you feel - the first time I beat her I was so frustrated that I resorted to summoning (something which I never do in fromsoft games). I regretted it so much that I vowed that I would master her fight. Frag her good!

you don't need to do anything fancy for waterfowl, just quickly get in and out with attacks, keep at least a meter away from her when not attacking and just run and jump to avoid first flurry

If you’re still having trouble I’d recommend using vow of the indomitable it’s a shield weapon art that basically allows you to ignore waterfowl dance but you will take a little damage doesn’t have enough I-frames for the first flurry

@@seanylewl Beat her this morning! Did it on a really sloppy run but she only waterfowled once in her first phase, really lucky RNG. After years of refusing to fight her any way other than summonless/melee-only, finally did it. Pretty elated. Masochistically I want to fight her again because I’m quite honestly still terrible at dodging waterfowl dance. Happy to be a part of the Malenia-Melee-Only Club!

what he's doing isn't easy...and he already died, his rune drop is there in the boss room already. The easiest way to beat her for me is bleed builds plus a good set of armor like the crucible or radahn's as long as you can mid roll.

The only thing I can’t consistently figure out in this fight is the waterfowl when you’re right on top of her. I’ve seen people run in circles to throw off the first flurry, but I can’t seem to get it to work for some reason. You did a great job with it.

For the run in circles strat, you have to imagine there is an invisible column that extends below her while she is in the air (because there is). You have to run around that. It's definitely not easy

it's easier to just always get away from her after each time you attack and just use the run and jump method

Been a fan of the claymore since DS1 days. It's pretty good in ER, especially with a good AoW. I miss the DS2 moveset it had. Best R2 combo, poke into a spining sweep. Looked so fluid and hit like a truck. Though it was the worst looking one. Didn't even look like a claymore because of the straight guard.

In DS2 (my first souls game) I used the Royal Knights Sword which was very similar, and then in DS1 I used the Claymore. Had a soft spot for it since then, although these days I tend to prefer straight swords just for flexibility.

@@seanylewl my go to weapons in DS1 were Claymore and Baller Swag Sword, DS2 Claymore, long sword and bandit axe, DS3 Claymore (sometimes hollow Slayer or black knights sword for certain enemies because of bonus damage) and Lothric SS. Seems like we have similar tastes. Which sword do you prefer in ER? For me it's between Noble's SS (gives those Baller Swag Sword vibes) or lordsworn. I switch between them and curved swords for fun.

@@relevantdoge1615 it depends entirely on how much you want to use the weapon art... as you can see in the video my mind is very low because I didn't want to use it that much. If you want to use it more, you need more. Not really something that can be quantified.

I’m gonna be honest, I’ve played through this game about 8 times and the claymore run is the weakest weapon I’ve had to use. Fucking +25 with 60 strength this thing does pussy damage.
