The Lost Boys Movie Screening on the beach in the REAL Santa Carla, Santa Cruz CA - Filming Location

While in the area for a convention I happened to catch wind of a screening of the film The Lost Boys happening on the beach at the famous Santa Cruz Boardwalk. So of course I had to go check it out. It also gave me a chance to grab a few pick up shots I needed for my upcoming Horror's Hallowed Grounds episode.

At the beginning of Jordan Peele’s Us, when they’re on the boardwalk, there’s a line “you know they’re filming something by the carousel, you should see if they’re looking for extras”. Which of course has to be a reference to The Lost Boys.

So rad, I visited Monterey a couple years ago and when I realized how close I was to Santa Cruz, I had to drive down and visit the boardwalk. Huge Lost Boys fan all my life!

I've been to a few of these and was up from Monterey to see some of the filming back in the day. And dozens of concerts on the beach since 1978 to present. Santa Cruz (Rasta Cruz) was such a great backdrop for The Lost Boys movie. It was in itself a character, that played so well into the magical lure of the film. Thanks Sean. Such cool nostalgia.

I had NO clue they did this until I found reference in another youtube video about the Lost Boys. So cool !!! Wow that looks like fun. Okay, am I the only one who got the Lost Boys reference in the opening flashback of Jordan Peel's US? Man yeah I'm on the same page as that guy there to see the screening. Seems like yesterday was opening night. Every joke landed, my gf ended up in my lap for the scary parts, the soundtrack was amazing. No movie juggles laughs and scares like The Lost Boys. Yeah, plenty of horror/comedies, but few can juggle both in the same scene. IT tried to be Lost Boys, and imo it kept the film from being a 5/5

What would be super cool is if they had park staff kind of line the outside of the audience (or tape off) along the beach side of the audience and then right after grandpa says his closing line, vampire actors on motorcycles sped down the beach towards the south (or train bridge end).
