On March 4, 1865, Abraham Lincoln delivered his second inaugural address near the end of the Civil War. He called for healing and unity, emphasizing malice towards none and charity for all to achieve just and lasting peace. This inspired this week’s sermon, “Malice Towards None, Charity For All.”
Pastor Adam addressed the fear many feel during election season, a fear fueled by negative ads, actions by radical supporters, and concerns about the nation’s future. It's natural to feel this way. However, he shared practical steps to combat this fear:
Face your fears with faith
Examine your assumptions in the light of the facts
Attack your anxieties with action
Release your cares to God
The sermon also emphasized the importance of standing firm in our faith and values, despite political pressures. Christians should never compromise their values or faith for political allegiance. Remember, candidates are not lords; they are public servants. Only Jesus is our Lord.
As we conclude the ‘Do Unto Others’ series, let’s commit to being part of the solution, not the problem. If you've hurt family or friends due to political differences, now is the time to seek reconciliation. Reach out to those you've had conflicts with and show them love and care. The healing of our nation begins with us.
