Malindi was a rich man's paradise mainly by Italian mafia's and drug dealers. Some of these guys died and some were arrested and some just became old. Another factor is Malindi relayed heavily on tourism and when tourism is affected Malindi is heavily impacted since it doesn't have any other industry to rely on
