Have You Used These? Old Weed Cutting Tools | Scythe, Sickle, Weed Cutter, Grass Whip

We were able to get some of my grandfather's old weed cutting tools and an old scythe. In this video I clean up the scythe and test out all the tools!

I have used a couple of those weed wackers and even tried the scythe. I saw my grandfather in law try to teach me how. It is more of a slicer than a wacker I think. He used it with great skill. You could tell he had a lot of practice. That was a much tougher generation. Great video!!

I grow up using those and I still use them today. And if anyone wants to use them they still can. Anyone can still buy them of if Amazon, Ace hardware, tractor supply, Rural King.

Nothing like days out in the Yard, on the Farm using Tools older than we are, [or not]. Do hope you *Feed those Pigs,* they're getting mighty *Excited* each time you handle that Corn. That's Love lol : } Sadly Tools, like these today, (IF even made) would not be usable to pass on. {{sigh}} What ever happened to 'Care invested is Value gained'; 'Always room for Improvement'? p.s. Yes definitely. I STILL use my old man's Weed Cutter to this day. Was the first tool he ever taught me when I was little and I still use it. Same Cutter. Same yard.

I got a couple of scythes and I wanna use em, but I can't seem to get em sharp enough to properly cut lawn grass or I'm doing it wrong. I have seen new scythes do it, well sharpened and keen carbon blades. But I got some old american antiques I've taken a few stones and a file to. They can do alright on thicker weeds, but grass just kinda flops over. There's an old-world fellow who grew up on a farm that said even the american blades need to be peened, which is you set the blade on an anvil and whack the metal with a hammer to draw it out. Also a proper millstone/grindstone might help to really set an edge.
