Been using the Tascam for a couple of years (before I got the MPC Keys) and it is awesome. The EQ is great if you get the gain staging right. The compressor is a joy - one knob, but optomised really well, so you can get a variety of effects depending on the input and the one knob. Regarding the pots - I think yours is a demo? - so it might be worn? Mine is very nice still after two years. It also has some nice fx and the easy recording directly to card is great when jamming with friends especially. By the way, that's how I would use the inserts... record clean to the card and then mixdown - you will then be able to use the inserts... actually old school and means you don't print the insert compression etc. Safer. Oh, and you can also internally bounce to free up tracks :) Wiith the MPC keys and it's limited number of physical inputs and outputs it's a game changer. Getting things routed around if you have a couple of synths, sample sources, guitar/bass or vocals - well it stops you having to be constantly unplugging and re-routing stuff. The possiblilities really open up. The price is VERY reasonable considering the functionality. It will also act as a master clock, so if you have stuff recorded on the card your MPC or Modular etc etc can be all locked tight. Tascam also do other models with more channels, but I'm not sure as to their USB capabilities compared to the 12.

Im assuming since I didnt see the faders move on the mpc screen that when you move the mixers faders it does not adjust anything in the mpc within the actual project, or does it? If it doesn't, wouldn't that mean that if the mixer isant hooked up with the same exact parimiters set on the knobs, faders etc, that the mpc project will remain untouched and the mixer would need to be adjusted again? Like does the mixer actually control any functions within the mpc?

Loved watching this Malo! I happened to have a Xone 96 for DJing which I now use in the same way for mixing, EQing and fattening/dirt (6 stereo channels w/ EQ, 2 without, many send/return options). It honestly is such a fun way to work, and great to have a dedicated device for audio shaping and connecting outboard gear rather than menu diving on the MPC. The send/return situation looks a bit awkward yes. Model 16 could provide enough with additional channels and workarounds to get more sends? P.S. How exciting for your new space and the vision it's allowing you to pursue... have fun :D

Hey brother, thank you so so much for taking the time and sharing his input with us. Incorporating outboard gear could be a bit finicky with this device and that is one reason why I’m still going to consider searching for different alternatives at the moment. Thank you so much for the kind words and it’s definitely exciting for me as I am building my studio piece by piece. It really makes me feel like a kid again lol.

I was going to say something similar, the Xone 96 is great with the current MPC’s and I think it’s more creative for live mixing. I’ve got a Model 12 and an SSL Big Six too… I would do a comparison video, if I was a video maker and had time. 😊
@jamesdean5095 Жыл бұрын
@@ccmp23 Wow quite the selection you've got! The 96 is an absolute dream for this combo, and so performative... but I'm aware it costs a bunch and the only reason I have it is because I know how powerful it is for DJing. You should def do that comparison vid that would be fascinating to see! The 96 has 1, only 1 limiting factor for me... no multi-tracking out when already connected to the MPC as an audio device. It's so, so close to being perfect. That being said, at the level I'm at this is arguably unnecessary and the potential to master further in a DAW is probably more of a distraction than anything.

Thanks for the great info! I have a M12 and just bought some out oats gear, the Eventide Space. Unfortunately I don’t have extra channels to bring it back in. So as much as I love the mixer I think I’ll need to get a bigger one. Maybe the 16 or 24. It’s a bummer you have to use regular channels to bring in the Aux/FX sends. It would have been better to have dedicated ports for the return. Kind of a crappy move in Tascam’s part. Your video helped confirm what I wished wasn’t the case, that I have to lose 2 channels for the outboard gear. (The Space pedal is stereo)

Hi @Nobofilms Yes, you can connect the Roland SP404 to the MPC One. You can typically connect them using audio cables, such as RCA or 1/4" cables, depending on the outputs and inputs available on both devices. This allows you to integrate the SP404's effects and sample playback capabilities into your MPC One workflow, adding versatility to your production setup.

Malo great vid, I notice you have an apollo interface. If you kept the model 12 how would you use both interfaces together? Would it even be beneficial?
@AFE9487 ай бұрын
Yes, it's possible to route audio from one interface through another, typically by connecting the outputs of one interface to the inputs of another. This setup can have several benefits: 1. Expansion of inputs/outputs: If one audio interface doesn't have enough inputs or outputs for your needs, you can use another interface to expand your setup. For example, you might route the outputs of one interface into the inputs of another to effectively increase the number of available inputs. 2. Utilizing different features: Each audio interface may have unique features or capabilities. By routing audio through multiple interfaces, you can take advantage of the strengths of each device. For instance, one interface might have high-quality preamps, while another might offer advanced DSP effects. 3. Flexibility in signal routing: Routing audio through multiple interfaces gives you greater flexibility in how you route signals within your setup. You can create custom signal paths, apply effects from one interface to signals from another, or route signals for specific monitoring or recording purposes. Overall, routing one interface through another can be a powerful way to customize and optimize your audio setup to suit your specific needs and preferences. Also keep in my some of the negatives are increased latency and sound degradation. I would suggest to use only one good interface unless you have a drawn out plan to use more than one.

You mentioned you use the Model 12 as a mixer and track out the sounds to your DAW. Does that mean you are using a second interface into the computer since the Model 12 is already plugged into the MPC? Also, when you move a fader to change the level, does it reflect that change within the MPC so you can disconnect from the Model 12 and revisit that project at another time, or is it always a live mix? Meaning none of your Model 12 mixes could live on the MPC unless you recorded it back into itself somehow. I want to be able to keep everything on the MPC and not use a computer basically at all. I'm looking at the MPC Live 2 for this purpose.

You can sample directly into the MPC using a stereo (or mono but stereo would be more appropriate) channel. You can typically record multiple tracks at once, especially if you're using a version with multitrack recording capabilities. would be better for using with a drum machine with physical outs instead of usb

Are you able to route this in controller mode as well? Like how you have the drums on a channel on a mixer and the sample on another channel?
@AFE9487 ай бұрын
Let me see if I am understanding correctly, so you want to have the Model 12 use MIDI for the drums on one channels and live sample on another channel?

I have the model 12 but i stopped because it has a lot of drop out issues. I only was crazy about the wifi to sample from my phone.

Great Video! But i've still got one question: Does anybody know, how i can export the Beat in stems with all the Settings I made in the Tascam. Even, when i'm re-recording the tracks individually, all the EQ- and compressor-settings are lost. I need the several stems to work further on PC.

Couch you imagine using AKAI MPC Software 2.0 for PC or Mac for Mixing? I'm actually thinking how I can put my Beats together with recording my lyrics. do you have an idea for that?
@wiggesobk Жыл бұрын
Great video. That's a great idea with the mixer i will keep that in mind.

i see you got the aiaiai wireless headphones how did you set up the headphones to it?
@malobeats10 ай бұрын
They are great headphones I just put the adapter to whatever output I want to monitor and turn on my headphones and they sync up very fast. I don’t notice the latency if there is any.

@malobeats yeah model 12 is a big learning curve lol can't seem to get the headphones to transmitters to pickup the headphones

Looking for a mixer, I currently have my MPC one, SP404 mk2, turntable, keyboard, guitar, and I plan on getting a mic soon. As well as other gear in the future. If the model 12 isn’t suitable, which mixer would you recommend?
@AFE9487 ай бұрын
Alright, let's start with the basics: what's the primary focus of your music endeavors? Are you primarily performing live, recording in the studio, or perhaps a bit of both? Understanding your workflow helps tailor the recommendations regarding mixers to suit your needs. Also, do you find yourself frequently on the move, or do you primarily work in a fixed studio environment? This information helps narrow down the options and ensures we find the right mixer to complement your musical journey.

Question: Is the Model 12 the ONLY true daw controller vs the Model 16 or 24? Can I use the Model 24 the same way you are using it on the Model 12? I heard the Model 24 is NOT able to do what the 12 does? Any help would be great!
@AFE9487 ай бұрын
Yes the Model 12, 16, and 24 works the same with MPC One just make sure you take the time to think how inputs/outputs are routed the more tracks you have. It can get very confusing, I suggest diagramming your setup.

Can you use this with Maschine?
@malobeats Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question, I’m not too familiar with native instruments machine, but if anybody else reading can chime in, that would be great.
@BoloDaProducer Жыл бұрын
@@malobeats Yes, but you can't hook it up via usb. You have to use you 1/4 inch cables out of the Maschine +
@GritsNGravy Жыл бұрын
Yes you can. I had to set it up different because I'm using the mk3 not the +. Im sending maschine mk3 multirack from my audio interface outs with 1/4 cables, then into the model 24 inserts. Once it's in the mixer you can record to SD or send it straight to your daw via USB. I also don't see why this won't work with the model 12 or 16 either just different number of channels

@@AFE948 my problem was I thought it would control the actual fader in the Mpc but nah it just sends it to the fader and you have to record it on the mixer
