Few things make me feel more validated than seeing a Malo video teaching things the way I’ve been doing them. You’re the mentor I’ve never met!

I'm just going to say it - I AM a musician, went too music school in Sweden for 4y plus, instrumental teachers for 4+ years, I don't automatically hear what key some things are in dude, that's for people who have absolute hearing, we normies LOVE the MPC key detection feature, makes writing so much easier!
@Emefak9 ай бұрын
For those trying this method that don't know it, here is a tip: once you have detected your key and scale, in the key selection screen mentioned in 4:43 (also accesible from the "Pad Perform" section of the instrument) you can select the option "Notes" and then all the 16 pads are in that key, as opposed to "Chromatic" where only the pads with light are in key. This is a way to have a bigger range in such a limited keybed, and very useful in case you don't intend to use notes out of the scale. The other modes are also great, specially "Chords" for Rhodes jazzy chords, and if you combine that with "Note Repeat" you can have arpeggiated chords in scale very easily. I hope I'm not spoiling any future videos with this, @malobeats 😅

Great video and chops! Main issue i’m having with the key detect is that it only detects it correctly only for about 40% of the cases, that’s why I always double check.

This is dope, had no idea that's what it was doing 😂 but for more accurate key detection, it is better to create stems then detect the key of the instrument itself. I use RipX because it also gives me the key it's in after it separates everything, similar to Melodyne.

Bass is the most important thing specially in boom bap/lo fi type of beats. You need to find good pockets and tone/sound of the bass its the hardest thing for most beatmakers. Kev Brown is very good at teaching bass techinques i learned from him

Thanks for this tutorial,I watch alot of your videos this one is really helpful. One question when you used the lead sound you mentioned you were only using the yellow pads .Whereas when you used the bass sound I noticed you used red and yellow pads .Is there a reason for this .?

Crazy I just chopped a Tito Puente record with a Charlie Parker record and I’m in love with what I got so far, but I’ve been struggling to add a bassline that hits and sounds good. This video definitely helping me out right now

Always amazing, Malo! I liked how you chopped the sample on the strums. Was hoping you'd explore some off-grid sequencing with it too. Hitting the pads in between the quarter notes can yield some interesting results. Either way, you're awesome man! Thanks for the undying inspiration. Keep em' coming!

At 5:26 when you have a bass sample, how do you get it to show the notes? When I load a bass sample sound into my MPC, I can't use notes. I can only use 16 levels, which isn't the same thing. If I load a bass sample and hit notes, it's just empty and doesn't play any sound. Notes only works for me with plugins but not samples I load in.
@malobeats9 ай бұрын
Great question, you must have that base note, loaded into a key group program, which then will allow you to melodically play it with a scale. I would look up “how to create key group programs” and go from there.
@sohsuh76259 ай бұрын
Awesome thanks! I was loading the bass sample into the drum program when I should load it into a keygroup program. Wow! This is going to change everything for me. Thanks so much.@@malobeats
