Serving in the Royal Navy in the 60’s Malta was our home base. Wonderful people, fascinating history, well worth a visit. One fond memory our ship an Aircraft Carrier used the typical Maltese taxi boat called a Dghajsa (Dyeso) The owners of such boats were proud to serve the RN and kept papers of recommendations for years. So our ship was due to sail to Venice. Our captain asked Joe if he would bring his Dghajsa along, which we hoisted aboard These unpronounceable boats were beautifully painted in many colours and designs. When we arrived in Venice in the Grand Canal, The Dghajsa was lowered into the water and Joe took the oars. He rowed around our boat and then took the Captain and senior officers aboard for a meeting ashore. The beautiful, but all black Gondolas were stark compared to this strange Maltese boat. All the Gondoleers stared in admiration and Joe’s chest was visibly swollen with justified pride in his little boat being admired in Venice.

@Burt Then stop your govt from selling citizenship to investors. Many Indian billionaires are buying Malta citizenship when they get into trouble with govt and then they would obviously dump people from subcontinent in your country. It's the greed of your govt that is the problem. Why blame Indians?

An Island I know well. As a tourist you will love it and English is widely spoken, Friendly people and a near ideal climate. Live their permenantly I'm not so sure. It's an EU member and therefore not free to govern itself and for sure it's not cheap. Cheaper than London, yes, but cheaper than, say, Lisbon NO. You pay your money and take your choice.
