My Mum came to Renfrewshire in '66. I always heard her speak an highly articulate Scottish accent, growing up. But for the past few years she reverted via Skype and numerous airplane revisits to her accent.

If they weren't speaking maltese I would have thought they were from Sicily honestly. The background, the old kind people are very familiar to the Southern part of Italy. Well of course it is so, we share a common past. Sicily for example was mostly arab with some greek influences before Federico II settled there. If he didnt do what he did maybe Sicily or even the whole south italy would probably be like Malta.
