This just shows how much the 2 of you have grown. Little Bear most proud of you for having the strength and courage to go as far as you did and for being able to speak up for your self when you knew you were done. Mama Bear most proud of you for always putting little Bear first after God.

I think that was a big part of it. With inflation like it is. Someone would have to basically double what they budgeted for hiking the AT 2 years ago. I hate it for MB and LB but I feel that was a big factor. I wish them the best and will continue to follow their journey 😊🥾

Hi there! 😊 She’s not referring to the monetary cost, but the cost I discussed in the video, which was time away from family. That cost was simply not worth it. Financially, we were doing fine even though it was very expensive. I’m glad you’ll continue to follow our journey! Thank you. We have fun family adventures coming up. 🙏🏼💙

I was behind but finally caught up to your videos lol, You too have been such a blessing to watch, and I completely understand the decision to get off trail I actually think you guys did fantastic and lil bear was amazing! It makes me really feel like it IS possible to try to thru hike with my son despite the mixed reviews I've heard on it from people without kids. I can't imagine the longing to return to your family after that shocking news your friend faced on trail a few videos back, I'm definitely keeping her and their families in my prayers. Good job you two and be blessed.

Thank you for being a part of our journey! We’re so happy to share it with you. It is absolutely possible to hike the AT! After all, it’s just walking! But, most importantly, you have to want it more than anything. And although we really wanted to walk all 2,200 miles, we didn’t want it more than being with family. Being away for nearly 3 months was hard and in the end, we deemed another 3 months away just wasn’t worth it to us. Thank you for your prayers. God bless! Love & light to you! 💙☀️✨🙏🏼

It takes a special kind of person(s) to make such a difficult decision when you know in your heart, mind, body, and soul it’s the right one. You end your hikes with reviews of one’s self on what you learned from the day. Your character builder for today is making that right decision. I’m not disappointed in your decision, but rather like a good book or movie, I didn’t want it to end. God bless you both in all your endeavors and I know in my heart you both are enriched from your experiences. This is not a journey’s end but journey’s beginning.

Sometimes it’s the journey, not the destination . Old grandpa here. 65 years old. I’m a year and a half removed from a one month trip to Nepal (winter time, solo trek). Saw only a few other trekers in a three week period. It was an extraordinary experience . way beyond what I had expected or hoped for. However , reflecting back, it was all of the preparation that has made the greatest difference in my life. And I will benefit from that preparation period (extended several years due to Covid delays) for the rest of my life. My money is on Little Bear . The itch will return . She will complete this trek sometime in the future. Perhaps even the PCT. Mama Bear may even take her grandchildren out someday. Regardless, our Little Bear will benefit from this throughout her life. She will be much better prepared for life’s journey and difficulties. Same with Mama Bear. And most likely even her siblings have learned, through her, from this experience. Excellent job. So very proud of you. We all feel like family. Thank you for this experience. (On a side note - separately - a huge shout out to all the military families. This video should remind us all the difficulties the military families have being separated from loved ones for a year at time throughout their career. Thank you for your service.!!!!)

We were a homeschooling family too, from birth through high school. I did about 475 miles of the AT with my boys in sections each year until they grew up and went off to school or to accept jobs. Then I carried on, never doing more than a week per year. I'm at 900 miles now, stopping at Shenandoah National Park this year, and looking forward to next year. Each time I'm on the trail, I can't wait to go home - to my family, friends, church, and writing. The trail is fun for a bit, but "real life at home" is where I really want to be. Y'all have fun and God Bless. Paper Map from Georgia (born and raised in Miami a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away).

That’s awesome!! Sounds like you had lots of great adventures! And yes!! We can sooo relate. The AT is awesome…no doubt, but in the end, home is where our heart was and longed to be. I can definitely see us doing smaller sections for a while. We loved it! My husband still wants to thru hike, so maybe we will go back to our original plan and give it a go when we both retire. I can see the timing would be much better (all the kids will be out on their own)…but depending on what’s going on at home, I may not want to be gone for 6 months! We love our life! God bless. I have been so impressed by you and Little Bear throughout your journey. I have no doubt that you have the physical and mental strength to make it Kathadin if that was what you chose to do. Not sure if it’s because you’re a therapist or if it just comes naturally to you, but you have demonstrated beautifully how to process and express feelings (both good and bad), and how to adapt and make new decisions that are well thought through. Isn’t that one of the biggest life skills to learn. Why stay on trail if that is not where your heart is… just to say you did it? Thanks to you and Little Bear for being such great examples. I will continue to watch your channel and look forward to future adventures.

I took a moment to read the comments before I wrote this, and Like many others, I'm somewhat saddened by the fact that you ended your journey. Sad because you two bears have been one of our daily highlights every day since we accidently stumbled on your wildflowers adventures on Day 1. You changed my life,.. for the better. I hiked about 50 miles of the trail Va to Harpers Ferry and sections in Maryland and Pennsylvania many years ago. It was an experience I have never forgotten and watching you two has inspired me to go back out and do some more miles. My wife and I use some of the lessons you taught us along the way, This is all temporary, learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, and many more. We even ask each other at the end of the day, What was your highlight and did you have any character builders today. One day our highlight was offering some trail magic to a SOBO hiker we met and we told him how You had inspired us at age 71 to go back to the trail. He was so excited and he was going to look for you In Va where we thought your paths might cross. Little Bear, You are AMAZING in so many ways, Strong and courageous, you set a mean pace for your MAMA and so funny at the same time. Mama Bear, you Define the BEST of being a GREAT MOM. A lifetime of memories of this adventure will live on. I predict in time you might go back to the AT. You can leave the Trail, but the Trail will never leave You. You both have much to be proud of. Blessings to You and Your family. Looking forward to see what great things life has in store for YOU Both. Love You Bill and Lori !!

Since it won’t be for another 6-7 years though, Little Bear will have to see what she’s doing at that time as to whether or not she will join us. I’m so happy to hear you’re getting back out there. The AT has so much to offer everyone. Love and light to you both! We hope you’ll continue to share our upcoming family adventures where we combine the best of both worlds!

Now it's time for a new adventure!!!! The Trail will always be there. The time with your family won't, not as in something happening, no no no lol, but the TIME. You can't get that back. The trail has a way of realigning your priorities and definitely makes you appreciate everything more…you especially appreciate the people you love more. It’s not just about being homesick. I think the heart begins to tell you that spending valuable time with loved ones is more important than ever before. At least that happened with me. I believe that we all get what we need from the trail at different points. Some people find their Katadyn in Maine. You found yours in Virginia. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed. But as I've been saying all along, you did a lot here, especially LB. It's tough being away from family, tougher when you're 11. I think your analogy of saving up for something only to find a huge price increase in the end actually makes a lot of sense. The juice became not worth the squeeze. You did prove that you can do it, physically and technically, so that's something to be very proud of. And you learned your limits. You and LB enjoy backpacking together, but not being away from home and family for extended periods. There are lots of shorter backpacking trips you could do in the future. I was thinking of you guys yesterday evening and was going to suggest you consider just taking an extended break at home to recharge and feel like you're not away from your family for such a continuously long time. You could still do that (nudge nudge!) if you wanted to. Take the next month or so at home, and then "flip-flop" starting out from Katahdin. New England still gets hot in the summer, but not like VA and PA. By the time you got back to Roanoke it would be comfortable days and nice, cool nights, not to mention "the fireworks of fall" when the leaves turn bright colors. But, that's totally up to you. Safe travels as you finish your return home, and I look forward to whatever comes next!

Time with your entire family to take on adventures together ,,to share with all while you can ,, after all the older children will be following their own paths soon and you want to get all the time while you can .... Stay Safe and God Bless ...

You’re exactly right! Although it’s amazing,in the end, it’s just a long walk and doesn’t compare to being away from our family for so long. It’ll be there when the timing is better. My husband still wants to walk it, so we will plan for retirement. And Little Bear and the other children will be welcome to join should they choose. In the meantime, we have family adventures planned and can’t wait! Thank you for your support and kindness. 🙏🏼💙

As much as I have enjoyed your videos and wanted to see you finish the hike, I know how you feel. I did a partial hike also in 2010 to Harper's Ferry WV and decided I wanted to go home also because of missing home and family. Rode the commuter train into DC, shipped my gear home through UPS, got on a plane to Florida and that was it. It is an experience that you will never forget and you will be talking about it for years to come. Mama Bear you are a very good mother to have given your daughter this time and this experience with you. You may also find out that it has changed your life, and your priorities of what things in life are important. May Yahuah Bless you and your family. Mark

Thanks, Mark! We appreciate your kindness and support. It sounds like you know exactly where we are coming from. It’s hard to describe because hiking the AT is a phenomenal experience…but in the end, it still pales in comparison to being with family. 6 months really is such a long time to be away from them. There will be another season in our lives where it’ll be better timing. 😊

Wow, blow me away! And unlike other hikers I follow, your bodies were holding up well. But it's a long hike and I understand completely. In fact, wanting to be home is probably the biggest reason I don't attempt a thru hike. Plus I'm old. And the thought of putting on wet clothes first thing in the morning makes my skin crawl. At least you've walked more miles than all the people I know put together! I will miss you. Of all the hikers I follow, you two were guaranteed to make it. But as Dorothy said, there's no place like home! One more thing: you and your husband sure have a great daughter. I don't think I ever heard her complain and she sure had plenty she could have complained about.
@cherylberger45176 ай бұрын
This was a great success in my opinion. Priceless memories and bonding! The deficit with family time is definitely an "expensive" issue, I totally get that! The success is that you decided together, and that's all that matters. You are also healthy, and no injuries or illnesses (that I see) which takes a lot of people off the trail. There is NO question at all you could have done it. You both made the 100% right decision for you, and NOTHING else matters. Hugs to you both and I will look forward to your next adventure! Enjoy reuniting with your family and pets! I'm sure that will be happy tears! Congratulations!

I'm commenting before I even watch. Don't want to be affected by what you say in the video. Want to tell you that I'm confident you both have listened to God's guidance, and are doing what is best. As I commented on the previous video, you have been a blessing and an inspiration, and I don't know when I've enjoyed anything as much as I have your walk on the AT. I hope you'll leave your previously posted videos up for us to watch again, because that's what I'll do when I get lonesome for y'all's adventures! 😊 God bless you and your entire family, as you continue having a positive impact on everyone you meet.

I'm more than positive God's Guidance doesn't tell any of us to leave the wilderness and choose the world, worldly possessions and sin. It's literally the complete opposite of what God wants from us. If this choice can't be made to stay on the trail, there is no way they refrain from taking the mark of the beast. It's sad to see the world and all its sins win again. And here you are supporting bad choices and the world over God and God's gifts

One of the things I was thinking while watching was that you were showing signs of being tired of the routine of this hike. There is quite a lot of it. You said you were a feeling a bit bored. I think that probably is true where you have gone so far. However, I'm pretty sure that would change in the big mountains of New England. Either way, there is nothing to be apologetic about. You guys had an cool adventure together. It's something you'll always remember! Take care and enjoy your "family reunion"!

@@wildflowersadventures I agree. I thought about the possibility of doing it when I retired last year. But, I just don't think I could just leave my family for six months. I'm happy doing day hikes on the AT as I live very close to it in Pennsylvania. Although, I have a bit of an urge to do at least one of the big mountains. I'd love to see the view from one of the 4K's. BTW, as a teacher and a dad of a now adult little girl, I'd like to mention how wonderful this experience was for your daughter. You can't put a price on the education these weeks out there provided. Again, take care and see you down the road!!
