I’ve read that the scent gland at the base of the tail is the most personal for cats and the least likely to get clouded by a group scent or outside smells so it’s the best way to recognize a familiar cat! I bet mama Tali does recognize their smells and why she checked their butts so carefully 😂

For dogs too...all information available about the animal (where it's been, what it ate, who it interacted with) is discernable through tail gland scents. The adult cat really was on a detective mission: what ARE those young human scented kittens about, anyway? Very distressing that it all was so suddenly imposed upon her.

When mama went into the box, you said she wanted time alone....in my experience, she was actually wanting to nurse! She expected everyone to follow her. It's super adorable that mama was so eager to bond with all her babies!

I totally agree with you. in my eyes it looked like mama cat was thinking, if they are mine and have been away for so long they must be hungry. And then realising why they weren't hungry she needed a minute to think. At least that's my take on it if anyone was wondering :)

@@Ariel_Waters No, it's pretty much just you. Some people say she recognized them but that's just because she went to check them out quickly when she heard them making noise. She licked one on the paw 3 times and that was it for grooming. It was just sniffing butts, then going to lay by herself.

I'm so so glad the momma got reunited with her three babies. That's the best thing ever. She recognized them by smell. Actually no, that cat is not cool with the situation. She's still very maternal so she will not be quick to reject them but she is definitely treating them differently from how she would be treating them; if they were never apart. AFAIK It's pretty normal for cats to have altered relationships after spending time apart, hopefully she accepts them and they form a new parent-kitten relationship.

Cat moms cat be traumatized from losing their kittens too soon. It probably helped that she still had one left, but the ones that are good moms don't lose that caring instinct so quickly.

When a mama is friendly, Kitten Lady and pretty much every rescue/shelter will work to find a home for them too! She will be spayed and get a good home when the time comes for her to just be a happy house cat.

Well the floodgates just opened and I am in my office crying while I watch this. 😭 Happiest tears but omg! Mama knows her babies and they know her too. Full circle in action. It is awesome to see your philosophy on kitten rescue and cat welfare be witness in this sweet reunion. I will be watching this several times...just to take it all in. When Mama Thali and Aamli were being searched for, I hoped everyday that they would be found. Even as the days went by...I never lost hope. And here they are. its important for people to know that this doesnt always happen. Just a week can seperate the whole litter if the mother is too stressed or just of a different personality. I rescued four kittens that forgot about each other after just a week. They stayed apart until they got to know each other again but still growl and hiss at each other sometimes. Ive seen mothers completly reject their own kittens after being seperated to the point of smacking down and hissing and running away growling. its a horrible sight to see and hard on the human heart. You are lucky in this case. Just want people to know that cats dont have the same kind of emotions that humans have and its because they are still part wild animals.

I assume that there are a couple of factors at play here that were helpful in the reunification: a) mama cat wasn't feral; she seems to trust Kitten Lady and therefor probably responds positively to praise and encouragement b) mama cat had enough to eat and a safe place to stay so she could feel up to the task of raising additional children

Ive had cats that had plenty to eat, i wait on them hand and foot and would still be nervous for a whole year until settling down. Some cats get along with kittens well some cats simply don't.

Don’t answer him. He’s on all the animal videos, looking for people that are kids, preferably girls. He’s always talking to women, and often saying it to women who have their full name as their KZbin sign-in. And he always asks a question about where they live. That’s not a coincidence. I’ve seen a couple girls reply to him, and he always casually asks where they live exactly if they answer his first question. Worse, they’ve told him, bc they’re probably too young to know… There are places online where you can find out a terrifying amount of information about people if you know their name and where they live. The Internet is still as potentially dangerous to people’s privacy as it was before it became widely public, if not more so. You don’t need to be a tech expert anymore to look up a name and location and find out a bunch of sensitive details. He’s a predator. Preying on women, looking for girls so naive that they give him a hint about where they live. He also keeps talking up those naive people who respond to him until they agree to give him some of their other accounts and regularly message him. He acts like he just wants to be friends, but predators are perfectly capable of being both friends and stalkers, and it’s pretty unlikely anyone who really wants Internet friends would target only people with their real full names on display, mostly women, and ask for their location before anything else, and be on KZbin of all places, instead of a chatroom site. Places like social sites have people of older ages more experienced with the Internet, looking for friends online, while KZbin is a video-watching site, not a social one. But it’s where people of all kinds- but especially kids new to the Internet- go to watch videos. And it’s much easier to find often-younger people, naive to the internet and inexperienced with dealing with predators, on bigger, popular sites like this. I’ve reported him to KZbin like a hundred times, but I still keep seeing him. He changes names sometimes, but he’s still there. Maybe you should report him too, don’t know what else to do yet.

She knows exactly what’s going on. Cats are intelligent ASF. We’re decades behind in cat research but already (at least 20 yrs behind) we’re seeing things we’ve seen for years with dog research. Empathy, unconditional love, preference of their human, wanting to be with their human, choosing their human, knowing their human out of numerous people, knowing their siblings not just biologically but in house pet siblings, having a specific language (meows) JUST FOR THEIR HUMAN!, etc etc. They all know exactly what’s going on❤ Thank you so so SOO much for doing this & taking care of them❤ thank you❤❤❤

I'm so glad the Momma is a stray and not feral. It will be so much less stressful for her spay. When I was young we had to move in with my aunt and cousins, and with the chaos, both my aunt's cat and our cat got out and got pregnant (Dad was in between jobs so we had to wait for a low cost clinic...and we didn't make it). Lucky, my aunt's cat, was very confused by the whole thing. She gave birth and was like, "What are these things?". She refused to nurse and actually hissed and batted at her babies. Luckily, our cat Bastet was a great Mom. We snuck Lucky's litter in the box with hers. Her reaction was very like this Mom. Like, "Wait. What? Are these mine? What is going on?", but within a few minutes she was contentedly nursing everyone and she was a great Mom. Dad found a job, so we were able to get all the kittens (and the Moms) spayed/neutered and vaccinated and found good homes for most of them, but we kept Domino from Bastet's litter. He was an orange point long hair with crossed eyes and we just couldn't part with him. We had to watch him because he like to eat broccoli, which inevitably made him sick. Weirdo. Cats are really remarkably resilient, and I love it when they get a happy ending.

Hi . Me and my daughter are so tired we rescued 5 kittens from really hard places but we got them 2 different litters . But here in NSW it's hard to find foster parents to help us out I'm full but after the car breaking down and towed to mechanics we found someone it took all day . But they're safe and we know were they are. I've got two mommas and 2 kittens here at home plus my 18 fur babies 12 months to 15 yrs some of them with special needs. It's after 11pm and just sat down had a coffee my daughter is asleep she had to climb under houses with huge spiders. I'm blind in one eye so can't do it anymore . But I'm here to cuddle them and cage them . Then we get to our vets to find he had a car accident and in hospital so we're worried about him . Known him for 32 yrs. Such a precious moment and I totally cried happy tears watching this sweet reunion. So happy all are together again. Momma seems like such a sweetheart.
