I made this burp cloth today. It was so very easy. I had no trouble with the dye bleeding. I did make sure to rinse and hand wash and rinse again real well. It turned out adorable and was so very easy to make. Thank you so much for sharing this idea. :)

Thanks! First grandchild in June! However, since I have been making bibs, I am fitting in friends and family! Do you ever cut the diaper to make a smaller cloth? I have been putting flannel on back of bibs.

Laura, Use Therm O Web Heat N Bond on the back of the fabric (it has a paper backing, so you can draw on it or trace your image), then cut it out. Following manufacturer's instructions, heat set it to the burp cloth. I like to use a zig zag stitch around the edge of the applique for an nice finished look. Happy Sewing- Ana

Your tutorial is great - I think you could buy diaper fabric and just double it when making these or do you think it is cheaper to buy the pre folded diapers. I saw diaper fabric for 2.98 a meter today

depending on the cost it may be cheaper there are quite a few different types of fabric for diapers. ie birdseye, gauze and the fuzzy fabrics

Does the dye bleed into the wash? I would hate to give something to someone that turns their laundry pink...
@sharonolsen65796 жыл бұрын
I would hate to have anything home dyed on something that a baby will be putting his or her face and mouth on... white is fine.. and best for baby... sorry if this bursts anyones bubble.. but the baby is the concern here.. and yes.. it will potentially bleed every time you put it in the wash..

Would never make again. I was so excited to make these burp clothes but even though I dyed the diapers according to directions and used salt to set, I had to wash and dry the diapers 5-6 times to get rid of the extra color. I even purchased the Color Grabber sheets in the dryer sheet section at store to catch any bleeding. I didn't want the dye to get on the other fabric I was using and certainly not on other clothes my daughter would be washing with the burp clothes. The burp clothes may look great and she liked them but I certainly would not try again.

Have you ever used the pre-folded diapers to make a burp cloth?
@WCKPartnersLLC10 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have used the pre-folded diapers! All you have to do is dye them and add a cuff on one end of the diaper. Note they will be a littler shorter than the non-folded diapers.
@pamelaeaves185210 жыл бұрын
When Creativity Knocks thanks, sounds like the diapers you use may be the better way. I think i would prefer the longer ones. Thanks, i'm going to be Great Grandma for the first time and want to make special things.
