My mom made fruit cocktail cake all the time when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s. I have her recipe but mine never tastes like hers did. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I sure did like that cake.

I’m going to make this, but I’m gonna mix all the cake ingredients separate and then I’m going to pour in the fruit cocktail and kind of fold it all in. That’s how you remember my family making it.

I really appreciate my husband emptying the dishwasher and putting away the dishes, but he sure is creative about where he puts them! It's a little like an Easter egg hunt sometimes! That cake sounds delicious.

I hope your treatment goes well and WORKS well. I live in Ecuador. I work with a food bank, where we feed 170 families every month. Some of us "abuelitas" volunteer to make a birthday cake and bring a gift for a child on their birthdays. Some of our kids don't even know their birthdays because they have never had a cake or a birthday present in their lives! I thought I had a cake mix in the pantry, but I didn't. I didn't have pecans, either, so I just used extra coconut. A perfect cake, baked at 8.200 feet above sea level! The family was so surprised and pleased! You made a very poor child very happy!

My mother and I made a cake like this. I don’t remember the exact recipe and of course she didn’t write it down. My grandmother was notorious for not writing recipes down.
