This song got me through grad school. I know that’s not such a big thing, but I lived in an underground apartment in northern Illinois and didn’t get a whole lot of sun. I’d sing it to myself while trying to find a parking spot on this massive campus before going in to study in this tepid, unwholesome environment. Today, a year after finishing, my wife and I planted our first vegetable garden in our backyard.

“I need to start a garden” reminds me of the line “If I had an orchard, I’d work ‘til I’m raw” from Fleet Foxes’ “Helplessness Blues.” The desire to create and grow and make something, to participate in something meaningful, to pull yourself out of your rut and stagnation.

1:38 "If you don't go outside..." My favorite part of this song, if I had to pick... I fell in love at 15 with someone a decade older than me and *suprise* it turned out very bad for me. I spent 7 years with this person and realized the hard way that sacrificial love isn't love. Been working really hard to toss out my own "sour milk" of trauma responses and learn to approach the world with an analytical eye and good faith. This phrase in particular give me hope and courage. Love didn't hurt, that relationship did, and I deserve loving relationships (with myself and with friends too!). My heart swells every time I hear this song ✨️💚🌱

The boy who I gave abit of my heart too when i was 15, has just left to start a new life in Australia. We have been back and forth for years but we finally started too settle. We reignited things through him bringing me plants too my allotment ( I only just got it last year) this morning I went down too my allotment to mess around and just remember the beginning of me and him. This song came on a random playlist. Sometimes the universe tells me I'm in a wes Anderson film, when I got home my fridge has broke and the milk is sour. I miss him but we are still in the same film.

It got me through treatment multiple times. Nothing better than listening to her while smoking a cigarette. Not even being trusted to use a lighter. Having someone watch you shit, eat, sleep. By the way lol, some of us have decent taste 🥰 this song got me through a good bit, going back to school to complete my bachelors and so many other complexities To throw myself into something To go beyond what’s comfortable and build something for myself, to create something that can grow, to allow myself to not inhibit my intellect beyond what I might not deem to be perfect … and allow myself that growth Much love!
