My ten year old broke her arm last summer. She carried her arm into the house and I instantly knew that not only was it broken, it was a compound fracture. I had seen my brother have the exact same break when he was 12 and I was 4. I stabilized her arm like my mom had done for my brother and took her to the ER. She had surgery in less then 12 hours. Both bones in her arm had come through the skin. Blech.

As someone who worked in retail for several years, people aren't much nicer a lot of times in person to people in service positions. I include servers, call center people, retail, anything customer service centered. We aren't looked at as people anymore, we're looked at like we're servants and put on this earth to do their every whim. Every single person should have to work a black Friday [before all the online shopping], or serving an extremely busy restaurant, or taking calls in a call center when something is down that's not your fault. When they think they can get away with it, a lot of people kind of suck. And the internet just allows those kinds of people to do it to *everyone*, not just those they think they can "get away with it" with. I'm sorry you have to experience that. =/
@Mama_Bear5243 жыл бұрын
Yeah well it didn’t help having the credo “the customer is always right”. Such bs. Management needs to start to back up employees. If a customer is rude the salesperson can stick up for themselves or another one can stand up for them.
@azyraphae3 жыл бұрын
@@Mama_Bear524 I learned really quick that no one was going to stand up for me if I didn't do it myself. So, when someone got extremely rude or loud with me, I would either ask them politely to calm down, or tell them that I would stop helping them if they continued to speak to me this way. It's the same reason that when I'm frustrated with something and I have to call into a call center, I always start off with an apology that I may sound frustrated, but it's not with them, it's with the situation. I've never yelled at *anyone* over the phone. Who is that helping? The other thing that doesn't help is that managers frequently pay attention to the customers that yell, scream, and throw a fit, and give them whatever they want. While the quiet, reasonable person gets hosed. I made absolutely sure that didn't happen if I could help it. I would always go the extra mile for people who treated me like a person and not like trash.
@Mama_Bear5243 жыл бұрын

As someone who DOES work in public service you would be suprised at what people will say to your face. My favorite is telling people I just got married and them telling me "oh! wait to have kids. Trust me!" I'm 31 with endometriosis and infertility issues with 2 losses (both with my husband). We only just got married but we have been together 7 years. We know what we want and are ready for it 🤦🏻♀️. Love these old photos! I really wish I'd found you much earlier but Im so happy I found you when I did. I love your channel and content so much!
@xSwordLilyx3 жыл бұрын
Well I suppose you will have the opportunity to settle into being married first like they're advocating for unless you're pleasantly surprised. What they're suggesting is good advice, be sure you're doing what you really want to and you and your husband are not thinking of a hypothetical life before going through with the married with kids thing. You can never really know what you want for yourself until you live it. I would just try to relax about the whole thing unless you need surgery to get pregnant then do that. It's really not worth stressing too much over, what will happen will. I know a lot of people are really sure from an extremely young age what they want, and who they want to be with, but we all know people who have thought they did but they didn't. I don't want children myself, I have a lot of health problems that are heritable and affect quality of life and I don't want to dedicate everything to a baby anyway, commit everything, I don't enjoy it. I realize this and unlike my mom I am not having children instead of having them and giving them security and then abandoning them. A lot of my life is just taking care of myself. Maybe a perfect baby I could handle, but you have to be prepared for worst case and I am not. They could need you for the rest of their lives because they never gain independence. You could have a sick baby or pregnancy complications. My mom spent three months in the hospital for me, in bed. My dad had to threaten to sue over the bill. I don't think I could do that and I don't want to. If I got that advice if I was getting married I would appreciate not being asked again whether I was having children and actually being supported not rushing into it. Yes, I will be sure to wait. Forever but that is not your business. I would also want to be careful as a newly married person. Right now my boyfriend is not interested in marriage. I think one day we will but it is far off right now and his doubts about it as a thing will not just evaporate. A lot of people in my generation are seeing how people set up a storybook life they fail to live up to and get crushed by it and hurt their families, and sometimes that happens more than once and you end up alone like my dad. There is a lot of reason to be hopeful but also uncertain out there and marriage seems to mix it. My dad's first wife used him for money and after my mom left he doesn't even try to date, and anyway he became a single dad and it's become his life. I still see it more romantically than he does, I want to get married at some point just not now, but I do see the lessening of freedom it brings, especially with children, looking at the people I know who are married or not with or without children. I value my freedom a lot as well. I may adopt if I can but I will be waiting for that too and I would probably like an older child who is unlikely to be adopted by people who typically want babies. I gaurantee I would not be younger than you when I do. I don't really know what my options are there. My boyfriend has a brother who is special needs so I predict he will come before any of our children we would have, possibly I am already a mother then depending on how life goes, and my sister is a single mother and I help her with her son as well. I have zero children but my life is filled with other people's children to brimming. My boyfriends parents realize this I think and while they quickly married and had children they have never tried to make us. My sister having my nephew means I have no nagging from the rest of my family either. We're their extra hands, we pull ourselves reluctantly out of beds in the morning to tend to children just like they do, for me split across two houses. I have to be quite honest and say that satisfies me as far as what I'm doing with my life. If you don't have a big crazy family like me I can see why you're anxious to have kids now but you will have the opportunity to have children in another way if you can't have them yourself. Good luck to you. You are married or getting married and that should be what makes you happy and the rest will come when it does.
@cassandrahepp64453 жыл бұрын
@@xSwordLilyx I appreciate where you are coming from and your own personal situation. But it's inappropriate for strangers who come into the place I work to comment on when or if I should have children, ESPECIALLY when they do not know my situation. My husband and I may have just gotten married but we've been together 7 years. We KNOW we want children and have been trying to conceive for 4+ years. I had to have surgery to get pregnant but lost my baby only to get pregnant right after and have to give up that baby at 11 weeks because it was ectopic... There is nothing in this world that I want more than to be a mother. And there's a chance I will never have a biological child. It's devastating... When people ask "when are you having kids" or tell me "oh, wait to have kids" It cuts deep at an already very raw wound... and I have to smile and pretend like I don't want to cry...

@@willes2735 every person, ever relationship and every journey are different. This may sound bad but I tend to give older people a pass. Different times, different social norms and different expectations put on women in their generation. But there's so much more information available now. Also when a person makes such a large decision that affects their whole life going forward... it really should be respected. If you aren't ready to be married that's your choice. If you decided that you never wanted to marry and just wanted to keep your relationship as it is now that's your choice. If you decided to elope tomorrow. Your choice. And that's how it should be.

Sometimes I find it fascinating how people speak. I would never have guessed you were a born and bred Texan by your accent... ( I've "met" other internet friends with a very similar accent, but was surprised when I learned they were Texan) ... But when I heard you say "diaper," that did it. You're adorable. (ETA: I LOVE the Don't Stop Believin' Santa shirt. And I want it lol)

The people who choose to be mean online are uneducated & have nothing better to do with their time. The thing I love most about this channel is how you're unafraid & unapologetic about talking candidly on really tough subject matter. We need more of this on the internet.

regarding the broken leg story: something really similar happened to my sister and the doctors wouldn't believe my mum. they said she(my sister) was just to lazy to walk or something along those lines. but my mum new it was more serious and eventually they gave in and referred my sister to the children's hospital. and her leg was broken. so she (barely walking at the time) had to wear a cast for several weeks. I distinctly remember her hating it. you should listen to the kids, even when they are young, they know when they are hurting. love your videos ☺️

Wtf kind of idiot doctor is that?! Too lazy? 😡. Good for your mom to trust her gut. Poor little thing to be in a cast so young.

I love seeing when people don't have perfectly straight teeth. Especially when they can afford to "fix" them. First of all I have never noticed your teeth not being straight but like for instance Jewel... Her teeth have always been the same and I love her for that. For not changing something about her body that isn't a big deal or necessity. Commenting that someone's not spent money to make everything about their body "perfect" is so rude and disrespectful. Some people are secure in their bodies and thats a great thing!
@Mama_Bear5243 жыл бұрын
Thx for that comment. I have a weird tooth (canine) that is out. Like more forward than the rest. I’m a bit self conscious of it. But it’s nice to know that some ppl don’t care.

I love this too. I'm in the UK and I know that there is a stereotype that British people have "bad" teeth. I agree that dental hygiene and cleanliness are important but I genuinely like the variety in the shapes of teeth and that they are all organised slightly differently for different people. To me it's a bit like people having different coloured hair - there's no "right" colour and all the colours are beautiful, but you can change it if you like.
@blaireshoe87383 жыл бұрын
@@abioakley401 LOL, you just reminded me, I had an ex from the UK who once said it was "weird" that my gums showed when I smiled! If ever there was a surefire way to make someone stop smiling, THAT is IT! Never did get around to altering my entire jaw structure just to please him, and I think his brain-to-mouth filter has since improved, but really- maybe he just assumed all Americans should have perfect teeth since we don't have the same dental stereotypes as his own country. Pro tip: never refer to any part of a person's body as "weird," period. And PSA: it's not weird for gums to show when you smile!!

I get surprised at how small people are sometimes because I forget that I am unusually tall.. it just feels normal to me :) There is never any appropriate time to make a negative comment on someone's appearance, whether in person or on the internet. Too many people seem to forget Thumper's advice on this topic! I loved your story about Milo's injury. I know many doctors are working to treat patient (or parent in this case) experience as having as much value to the diagnostic and treatment process as the 'objective' tests since those tests can't always show everything that is going on but I also know that this isn't at all universal. You knew something wasn't right and took him back despite the test suggesting otherwise and I love that demonstration of the Mama-SuperPower. (I'm sure many Dads have it too.) Glad they took you seriously and cast him anyway. I had a full leg cast after a car accident when I was five, and I know that was stinky after it came off. I am glad I was past the age that I would have been dropping (or pushing) bits of food in there too :)

For example, I used to be have a real phobia about doctors, but you gave me hope that I can find one who cares like you. And I did! What a fun video! You are funny! (That's me getting on your good side!) Also, I would love for you to do a video about PMDD. A great friend of mine deals with it and it has been heartbreaking to watch, through the years.... First she didn't know it wasn't normal, because no one talks much about periods. Then trying to get doctors, even gynecologists to listen to her symptoms, and even now when meds help with most, but not all of the symptoms. The meds have made a big improvement, to the point that she can now hold down a job, and maybe even go to college, but there is still always the threat of the mental aspect. :(
