When I went into premature labor a lot of other women also were going into labor. My nurse was telling me it's getting really busy and "I swear everyone gives birth in batches. Some days it's practically empty, then some days all the rooms fill at once" I was laughing saying "but it's not even a full moon yet"

I'm an autistic mama-to-be, and I will be **surprised** if I feel an instantaneous love bond with my baby, because so many autistic moms take a while to develop that relationship. On the other hand, I **strongly** suspect that I would absolutely feel naked and empty and desperate if they abruptly took the baby **away** from me, to another room (luckily not a concern, in my hospital, as we have most emergency equipment in-room). That's a kind of bond, as well. We've been a sort of dyad, all this time. The physical absence of the baby would be **awful.**

The information on epidurals is **such** a relief. I'm getting induced, and I've been terrified of needing an epidural to handle pitocin, but slowing down labor enough that I end up needing more of that pitocin. I am hoping for a minimally medicated birth, but I **had** really wanted access to nitrous oxide for early labor, if I needed an analgesic. Unfortunately, our hospital isn't able to offer it, so it's been a huge weight on my mind whether to go with an untimely epidural or with fentanyl, if the pain gets to be too much in early labor.

My husband is a redhead and was listening, he has a bleeding disorder and chimed in sayong while redheads dont bleed more they are more likely to have a bleeding condition hence where that comes from.

I didn't know about the colostrum. I thought I'd have to order some donated breast milk because I've heard of hungry fussy newborns but I'm glad to hear our body is giving out what their tiny tummy is meant to handle.
@mamanursetina Жыл бұрын
Yes! And if you do choose to supplement a bit cause baby seems over fussy know it’s not a LOT of formula! Just a few mL will do it. But always baby to breast first so they give you those efficient ducks to help your milk come in for them ♥️
@Ambipie Жыл бұрын
Hungry fussy newborns may be failing to latch. Some people fail to produce milk if they're having diabetic problems. Remember, everything can go wrong, but if you're healthy, you should produce enough milk. Trouble is, you're technically sick from the waist down after giving birth
@ShortySensei9 ай бұрын
You can also try to hand expel some colostrum weeks before baby arrives, freeze it into medical grade syringes, and have some ready to go at the hospital just in case they can't latch to you well. I haven't tried it yet myself.

Another great and informative video to counter all that incorrect and unsolicited advise every expecting mother gets during pregnancy! Thank you, Mama Nurse Tina! Eighteen years as a L&D RN and patient teaching was one of the most enjoyable parts of my career. To be able to support and to help empower women during one of their most overwhelming and important life events is such an honour. For breastfeeding mamas, I also found it incredibly important to teach their partner how to help with breastfeeding, from ensuring mama is staying well hydrated and rested, to how to ensure a proper latch and hand positioning, etc. Knowledge is power!

My pain was unbearable with the epidural… really. I remember thinking “if someone cut my arm off right now it will probably not hurt as much as this”. I knew something was off when I felt pain putting the catheter in. I don’t know what happened exactly but I’m even considering not even getting it if it won’t do anything.
@mamanursetina Жыл бұрын
Hmmm. That’s interesting. If you felt the catheter it didn’t work at all!

Epidural- greatest thing that I could get on 4th day of my labour. The pressure I felt, it was like my ass was going to explode but no pain. After birth the doctor and nurse cleaned my insides, did the stitches and put my hemorrhoids back in, haven't felt a bit. In 2 months asking for epidural straight away, I'm not going to be dying in pain and exhaustion again. Thank You Medicine!!
@baileyemclean7 ай бұрын
See my epidural last time was so strong I felt absolutely nothing. No pressure, couldn’t move, I hated it. I didn’t know to say something I thought that’s how it was supposed to be. I am planning unmedicated this time to avoid that experience again

If you think your epidural ran out, you must remember that you are in little enough pain to form that thought. Without it, you'd be in TRUE PAIN

I felt like my epidural started working immediately and never felt any pressure. 🤷♀️ I don't know if it was too strong or what. Thankfully I was able to spend some time laboring down and once it was time to push I only pushed twice and she came out.
@brih2802 ай бұрын
My epidural "ran out." My labor was extremely long and about a day or so, the meds ran out. The epidural line was fine but anesthesia had to come up, do a new bolus and actually gave too much. (This was partially because I didn't tell them I was in more pain so until it got bad enough I could barely speak. They estimated that due to the meds being too low, I had likely been getting too little meds for an hour. Again, this is very rare. My labor was 78 hours, and I think my epidural was in for 36 hours.
@corinnegunter38894 ай бұрын
My moms epidural did run out. The doctors did not realize the medication was low so by the time she was ready to push there was nothing in the bag and they said they couldnt put another one up.

9:15 as a genuine red head, I can comment on this. I heal slowly, always have. A fractured wrist that should have taken six weeks to heal took eight, and cuts and scabs still around longer on me than my blonde and brunette siblings. So, do I bleed more? Maybe. But I’ve had three children and never got close to hemorrhaging with any of their deliveries.

Just be flexible in your thinking and know that you'll be pretty closely monitored. But remember it is more than possible. Use lots of positions to keep that pelvis moving and changing to allow your baby to drop and engage. And enjoy your birthing experience :)

That's what happened to me, after epidural I've got from 2,5 cm to 10 cm just in 40-45 minutes with my second baby. Well first time without epidural my labor was around 6,5 hours, so it's kinda not surprising, but 45 min, and than 12 minutes of push its kinda fast)))

Babies tend to lose weight in breast milk. I’m a bit worried about that this time because the doctors always get nervous about it. I was thinking maybe I should use formula too. I also am thinking I should have at least one on hand.
@mamanursetina Жыл бұрын
You could bring a bit of formula and if you choose to supplement and are wanting to breast feed first then always make sure to latch baby to get that stimulation at the breast and for them to take what you have in there and then offer a supplement. You could also do colostrum harvesting!
