i really like how this scene took a song that traditionally was pretty fucking weird in the way it sexualised a young girl from a man’s viewpoint and instead used it to empower the sexuality of a middle aged woman without judgement which is something we don’t usually see in media very often!!!!
@cmm55422 жыл бұрын
I agree with you that I love the way they swapped the roles around and showed it's the same deal no matter which one is older, but I felt the original was a very good message too. I'm not sure why you think the guy in the original lyrics was sexualizing the girl. He was warning her not to go after older men who, unlike himself, might take advantage or at least ridicule her innocence. Girls do often pursue older men romantically, certainly as much as boys do older women, and those men often cruelly brush them off as 'just kids' that don't have real feelings; or worse, assume they 'know what they're doing, because she came after me' and take advantage without perhaps even intending to. The great thing about this song is that it uses humour for the older man/woman to gently let down the boy/girl that while their feelings may be as real as their elders, they need to 'take it slow' to catch up and be ready for things they don't know enough about/aren't ready for yet - without directly insulting their youthful ignorance. As a teacher in secondary school, I know humour is an important way to control crushes from teenage students without either hurting their self-esteem or letting things get out of hand. This song reminds me of that whether it's sung by a man or a woman. I think it's a very caring message underneath the sexy vibes.
@monmothma3358 Жыл бұрын
Why should there be a difference, though, whether it's a man or a woman singing it? Why is one good and the other bad?
@susanahollenback1518 Жыл бұрын
Not sure I agree with you here. You’re kinda making a a double standard out of the whole thing. How could it be okay from a woman’s viewpoint and not a man’s?
@DorianFrostbite Жыл бұрын
@@susanahollenback1518 There is a double standard. There are always double standards, some valid others not, and anyone who wants to pretend there isn't is being dishonest. The fact is that an older woman is far less likely to take advantage of a younger man or pursue a long term relationship with them while men do it so routinely society is becoming numb to it when it shouldn't be. The double standard is that older women show far more better judgment than older men who run around trying to dip their old wicks into some fresh wax to feel young again or get an ego boost. While older women tend to want a man who will treat them right and share the same commonalities and spend the rest of their lives together.
@susanahollenback1518 Жыл бұрын
@@DorianFrostbite sorry but that makes no sense. Yes double standards exist, there’s no denying that especially given your blatant opinions. That doesn’t make them right. Plenty of older women take advantage of their position over younger men/boys. Regardless of gender, what’s an inappropriate age gap is inappropriate. In the case of this song and the gender roles, either way? It wasn’t a bad message if you actually listen to it. You can’t say it’s okay for one to act a certain way and not the other. That’s ridiculous
