After finding your channel this summer - I am now going deeper into the Archives archives. I'm enjoying getting to travel vicariously while pretty much homebound, so I appreciate the great places and trips. I really appreciate your style and spirit. Guileless, natural, thoughtful, erudite and light hearted. Your gear selections are of no real interest - just a means to get you out there. I really enjoy how you notice plants and wildlife and share your knowledge. And your mad skills with videography, audio and music are really impressive and a joy to experience. For me, you highlight the aspects of outdoor trips that I am after - the simple tasks, the consciousness of being alive, the spontaneous discoveries, large and small amazements in nature, dopey mistakes and satisfaction of adapting and just BEING. I want to thank you so very much, and wish the best for you and hope you are able to continue your chosen lifestyle.

I had the best experience of my life kayaking in the green river. We kayak from 3-9pm. When it was getting dark, it was just me and my friends on the river and then it started to rain, it was hot so the rain felt really good, the sound of the rain, the water droplets pattern on the river, the mist. It was all magical, like I am in a different world.

You guys just keep cranking out one good one after another! This trip is definitely going on our to do list for next year! My oldest daughter and I did a trip to Red River Gorge last July (the wilderness area not the crowded tourist spots) right at the peak of the rhododendron blooms that gave us the feel that we were in our own private Japanese garden. We camped right along a creek and some locals turned us on to an incredible hike that required us to hike in and directly down the creek (water shoes would have been nice but we toughed it out) to a place called Hells Kitchen. Was incredible!!! Was wondering where our next Kentucky trip would be, I think will take the whole family for this one! Thanks again gentlemen keep em coming!!!

Looks like you-all had a nice float. I prefer solo paddling and once you perfect your J-stroke, you might too. Paddling is like hiking, but you can move silently and catch wildlife that do not notice you, and yet, bears and snakes cannot sneak up on you. Also, pack weight is not an issue. Thanks for sharing your adventures! :D

Someone might have suggested this already, but when I am canoeing solo i use a double ended kayaking paddle which really helps with control and speed. Might be good especially with a novice canoeist. Though I am sure by now you are all more experienced on the water. Anyways, love your videos. Cheers, - J

AdventureArchives Went great man, going down there again on Saturday. Going to check out some of the wildflowers! I love you knowledge of plants, Do you know if there's any books to learn about the plants and trees around the gorge area?
@AdventureArchives8 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Hmm, I'm not sure about books specifically for the Gorge, but there are lots of good books that are useful for the Eastern US in general. Newcomb's Wildflower Guide is a nice place to start. I've also heard good things about Audubon's Wildflower and Tree guides: astore.amazon.com/advarch-20/detail/0375402322 astore.amazon.com/advarch-20/detail/0394507614 Hope this helps! -Andrew

Hmm, I'm actually not too sure! I tried looking it up, but couldn't find much, sorry. My guess would be a nymph of some insect from the river. But thank you for watching, and thanks for your kind words! Cheers :) -Andrew

Mammoth Cave is one place I've been but you must have been on a different tour. The one I was one started in the same place but finished in a very tall awesome "room" full of beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. It had a metal "circular" stairway (actually square) that we had to climb up to get out. For one with acrophobia, however, it was kind of scary because the stairs weren't solid; that is, they were very lacy and you could see through them all the way up. LOL At one point they turned out all the lights so you could experience total darkness. Did they do that on your tour? The scenery along the river was stupendous and it was so placid and peaceful. Viewing the beauties of nature is somehow so different from the standpoint of paddling in a river vs. walking along a trail. I particularly loved the morning fog-shrouded shots. It was like something out of a fairy tale, so mystical. This was definitely my favorite of the ones that I've viewed from the very beginning.
