Oh yes, my dream... donkeys and dogs, I have not because I am living in the center of a city. In French, we say "âneries" for "stupidities", it is wrong, donkeys are very intelligent and wise, while human beings are idiot and fool, I say now in French "hommeries", I can't support 'âneries'! Greetings from France. âne = donkey

Im so sad I never learned to ride. Got thrown a few times and was on a runaway horse once. I love the peace in this video between the rider and the animal.

Buster knows his name 😋 A donkey’s gate is quite different than horses, I can tell by “riding” along behind those ears... 😁 looks smooth

I was told once that all donkeys are gaited but I don't think that's true. I know Buster is, but I don't know enough about gaits to know what to call it. All I know is I feel like a queen sitting up there and my husband is jealous sitting on his clumsy horse. :)

That could very well be. There are bear and cougar out there. I think the wolves have been killed or run off. The animals are skittish, they don't bother us, but Buster doesn't know that. He is ready to save us from them!

lovely ride - thanks! so I understand there was NO creek crossing today? how do we know when working with Donkeys... is it just 'having their own way' OR 'playing it safe' when they refuse to do something like cross the creek? I would almost always insist my horses do as told - slowly and gently but firmly - how do we know when to push the issue with a Donkey?
@mesteno33 жыл бұрын
He did cross, I just can't video and work at the same time, plus it took a while. As long as I know it's safe, I usually insist that he do what I originally asked, even if it means getting down and getting my boots wet. Sometimes it takes a LONG time but we get it done. I can't remember a time when we didn't eventually get across the water. If I don't think I can get him to to do it, I don't ask. The one thing we haven't conquered yet would he a big drop down into the water. Even horses have a lot of trouble with that. I usually look for a gradual approach rather than a drop-off, or if I can't find that I once found a place he could jump across.

I just want to stroke those fluffy ears! I wish you shown us if and how did you overcome the bits he got stuck on. Do you just wait until he thinks about it, do you drag him, or just let him choose a different way?
@mesteno33 жыл бұрын
To be honest I don't remember. I think I probably got off and walked him across the creek. I'd have to watch the video again and refresh my memory. Often he just needs time to think, but sometimes I get down and walk him. Sometimes I go another way but I try not to encourage that kind of thing. Often there is no other way.

Beautiful donkey, I love the mammoth donkeys very stunning donkeys my girl is only a large standard 13hh but I'm working on saving up to buy a young mammoth jenny (although I'm a good weight for my current jenny, I still want something with more height to it)
@mesteno33 жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with shortness! 🙂 My poor husband will be ducking branches and having a heck of a time on his 16 hand mustang while I'm just happily cruising along on my 14 hand Buster. I wouldn't want a super tall donkey, they're harder to mount with no withers and no mane to grab. But the tall ones are sure good looking!

Do they have any other gears besides slow and stop ? If your 5 miles out and a big storm , can they get in a good clip to get you home ??
@mesteno33 жыл бұрын
I've seen better trained donkeys lope under saddle. Buster hasn't yet. His pace or whatever gait he does is as fast as a trot, and he will trot. But if you're looking for speed when you want it and for how long you want it, I'd recommend a horse or mule. Donkeys are more into conserving energy. Although... I have a slightly smaller donkey that is pretty responsive and agile. Some kid could probably run her all over the countryside. They really are all different.
