Continuing my journey with my new Record Power DML320 Lathe.
This video is aimed at the beginner with explanations of the lathe and
in many cases how they individually work.
The final part covers indexing, which I hope is in a way that simplifies the mystic!

Thank you very much for that. I haven't worked on a lathe since I was at school. I'm now retired and wanting to start turning again. Your explanations were very clear and precise, I'm looking forward to watching other videos from you. Mike N. Rotherham UK.

Very useful, I am thinking of buying one of these lathes as an upgrade from my very basic lathe. You have answered several questions I had and could not find answers online.

The banjo is the tool rest holder, the bit with the cam lock that rides on the beds. The tool rest is the part that goes into the banjo and actually supports the tool (gouge skew etc)

If you want to use the RP chuck for the first time, be aware that they come very well lubricated. After we had everything assembled and I had just screwed the chuck on the headstock, my friend was curious how much noise it would make, switched it on and gave full speed. I had an oily experience on my lips for about a week.

Well done Steve, mine is still going well. One little tip, you will certainly be doing some wet and dry sanding, make sure you protect the bed from water. Cast iron does not like water! I use an old towel - well it is old now.

Very much enjoyed watching your video. I see you have the BIG sander from Record Power too! I have a Record Power bandsaw (BS250) & wouldn't buy any other brand of bandsaw over Record Power!

Hi my friend, thanks for subscribing, pandemic considered I hope to continue making more vlogs real soon. My Bandsaw is the next one up to yours, the BS300E. I have a 20mm blade on it and I love it, does everything I need. My sander is the Record BDS250 and is a must have combination as a comprehensive sanding machine. for the price it is great value for money.

the speed sensor on my dml320 is kaput I have ordered a new one from Record Power. just need some guidance on how to replace the sensor. I assume there is a procedure for this operation, apart from disconnecting the wall socket, etc. Thanks in advance for your advice.
@rogerdavid3856
@rogerdavid3856 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, sorry to hear you are having problems with your speed sensor fortunately I have not had that problem and cannot guide you through the procedure. However it is something that i would not be bothered about tackling. If in doubt I am sure that KZbin would cover it.

Hi thanks for the video I have a record power CL 1 which I have had for almost 20 years and I am looking to upgrade what would you recommend my CL1 is a very long lathe with the tubular steel bed bars and I do not need such a long lathe on my workbench I turn bowls pens lidded boxes tea lights bottle stoppers so could possibly get away with a smaller lathe take care stay safe and happy turning .👍👍

Hi Clive, Whilst I am having some great results with my DML320 I am not a specialist on Lathe performance. The DML 320 is a small lathe or a big lathe as it is solid enough to carry heavy jobs and can be extended with an option bed extension taking the job handling size up to 48 inches. However I note that you turn bowls, I think Cl lathes have a rotating headstock which is ideal for bowls. The DML has a fixed headstock and I believe the maximum diameter is 12 inches. I hope this helps. Roger

Ive got the baby of the collection the DML250 as it was all I could afford at the time I love the 320 though so I'm trying to save up for one what part of Wales are you I grew up in Bangor :-)

Hi Colin, the beauty of Record machines is that no matter what model you have the quality is always good. I am still very pleased with my DML350 and it does all the jobs I need to do. Additionally there is an extension bed to turn up to 48 inches! I am based in a place called Tondu just outside Bridgend in South Wales, bit of a walk to Bangor I am afraid.

hi, looks like a great lathe, so many on the market, this one looks like the best as from what i see, record power good quality products. dust extraction, have a look at the rockler dust right. ideal for mini/midi lathes. cheapest from yandles £42.99 inc v.a.t.i would like to know, if you have time, whats the distance between the lathe bed,and the distance from the head stock the front of the way where the tool rest sits, as its wider than the rear side. thank you.

Hi Mike, I would be quite happy to check some measurements for you but I don't understand your question. Are you looking for the distance between the lathe bed and the centre of the head stock (called the swing). Also the maximum distance from the front of the lathe bed to the tool rest??
@mikemcdonnell6814
@mikemcdonnell6814 3 жыл бұрын
@@rogerdavid3856 hi david, thanks for getting back so soon, david the width of the bed below the head stock, its wider on one side, and the length of the wider part of the bed from the headstock, if that makes any sense. kind regards mike
