Aadhaar card and valid phone number should be submitted accompanied by a trustworthy guarantor. This way mischief can be avoided. Not all Nagas are the same. Some have zero civic sense or being responsible.

@@GiggityGig That's what happened during one of my trips to south India. My friend was my guarantor. Both of us submitted our Aadhaars and phone numbers to the owner. It's perfectly possible. If the rentee is a responsible person, he/she wouldn't find it difficult to get a guarantor to vouch for him/her.

Fitting gps/vehicle trackers on each rental vehicle will not come cheap but it is better to pay for such security then regretting bigger loss to these scammers. He wasn't the first and won't be the last.
