Passing doesn't mean that what you are saying isn't a lie. It just means that he personally believes what he is saying to be the truth. It doesn't matter what the actual truth is, polygraphs can't find that, all they can do is tell you whether or not the test taker is purposefully and knowingly lying. If someone is lying but they don't know that they are because they believe what they are saying to be the truth, they will pass solely because they believe their own lies. Polygraphs are worthless

Hey alexis, so a polygraph test cant determine the truth, all it can do is show if someone is actively engaging in deception. If someone passes a polygraph, it doesn’t confirm the truth of their statements but it does prove that they themselves 100% believe what they said to be true, which in fairness does increase the validity of their statement, just not to 100%. Whereas if someone fails a polygraph, it shows they were being untruthful when answering the questions, in which case you can much more definitively conclude the truth to be the opposite of what they said, as they knowingly lied about it.

That's not how polygraphs work. They tell you only what you believe to be the truth. Say for example that you genuinely believe with every fibre of your being that the sky is green. If you take a polygraph test about the colour of the sky being green, you will pass because you genuinely believe that to be the truth. It doesn't matter what the colour of the sky actually is, what matters is whether or not you believe what you say. If you believe it, you will always pass a polygraph.

Poor guy is accused of abuse, goes on TV to prove his innocence, takes a lie detector test, passes it, and then still has Dr Phil frame it in such a way as to make him sound guilty! At least give the accusers the test as well to see if they genuinely believe their allegations if you're going to go down this "lie detectors only measure what you perceive to be the truth" road. Maybe they just have completely opposite perceptions of the same events and nobody is lying, but it's just as possible that the accusers are just making it up. If you can't just take his word for it that he does not perceive that he did it, then you can't just take their word for it that they do perceive that he did it either. Without them also taking a test then you have to say that the evidence suggests this guy is innocent. Period.

Polygraphs will only tell what the test taker believes to be the truth. Say, for example, that you genuinely believe that the sky is green. If you sit down to take a polygraph about the colour of the sky, you will always pass because you genuinely believe what you're saying to be the truth, even when we know for a fact that the sky is not green. This man genuinely believes he did not harm them, and therefore he passed. He passed not because he was telling the truth, but because he 100% believes his lies to the point where he doesn't even realise he's lying.

Memory is not perfect. The mind fills in gaps, alters facts, etc. Narratives can even get created to deal with trauma.

The girls shoulda taken the test. Alcohol had a heavy play in distorting his recollection of those moments. Idk, I think if they did take the test, ppl woulda had concrete proof and would be so torn

But the fact of the matter is here's a man that went the distance and you minimized the trauma and pain that he went through the pain he's going through and the accusations, karomshots, and disrespectful stuff he will have to endure for the rest of his life. Okay, there maybe a reason that's not mentioned here. I know because I had alcoholics in my family. They can get so waisted and not remember something they did. So in their mind, they may not remember the act, but the sober people around them do. I had an Uncle that would wake up in different places and not remember how he got there. He could be guilty, and not have knowledge of it.

Dr. Phil is siding with the women here, hoping for Steve to be fully exposed on national TV, but when he passed the test convincingly he played it off by saying nobody is lying. Let's not kid ourselves here: because Steve passed the best polygraph test "on the globe," the credibility of the accusers now come into question. I don't believe those women.
