Oh man, I'm about to shed a tear here, for Jimi, the great voice from Survivor band & for those who struggle hard to get where they want to be. For Jimi is sadness cause he's no longer with us, but his memory lives on through his music. His voice will ring forever in the ears and hearts of his fans. I honor him and all of you. God bless you all. 🙏🏼☝

Worthy version and a nice tribute to Jimi. Awesome vocal on the original by Jimi who knew how to sing the hell out of a song, and Toby makes an excellent go of it here.

I grew up unwanted in an abusive household, and was suicidal since age 8. From "Muppet Movie Soundtrack", at age 4 to 8 or 9, I discovered Survivor. I got "When Seconds Count" when I was 10 years old and found such solace and hope in this song. Jimi was my childhood crush. Thank you for the inspiration, and the hope. In your music, I felt safe, like better days were possible. Much love to all.

A moving tribute to, in my and in many others opinion, one of the best voices of all time; Jimi Jamison. This really is one of Jim Peterik's best compositions (which Jimi has a credit on too) and remains one of Stallone's favourite songs too despite not making the final cut of Rocky 4. The story goes that Jimi did the vocal on this track in just one take for a demo and it was so good the producer of 'When seconds count' Ron Nevison said just use that, so he only ever sang it in the studio once. There are not many singers in history that could deliver such a powerful, emotive and challenging vocal as Jimi did, let alone in one take! He will always be remembered and his music appreciated. Thank you for this performance and the touching words at the start

Toby does a hell of a job on a really demanding song. Jimi's studio version is legendary and as Jim, says he owned it. Jimi had a cool combination of gruffness, range, soul and his secret weapon was a little cry in his voice at the top of his range. Almost a yodel
@ZenyattaFan19 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jim. That was a very touching tribute. Kudos to Toby for his amazing job on vocals. I don't think anyone can sing this song as good as Jimi, but Toby comes close. I'm not an easy critic either, but I think Toby's vocals were superb. And Jim, I just wanted to say that I don't know how anyone can write so many incredible songs as you. You are a true musical genius. In terms of songwriting, I put you right up there with my all-time favorites, guys like Paul McCartney, Elton John, Billy Joel, Tommy Shaw, Dennis DeYoung, Roger Hodgson, Peter Cetera, and a few others. I think you are absolutely amazing.
@halo13n9 жыл бұрын
+ZenyattaFan1 youre right, nobody can outdo Jimi's amazing vocals but anyone who comes close is brilliant in their own right. You certainly know your songwriters, Billy Joel for me is the best songwriter of all time when you consider the musical complexity, lyrical content and stylistic diversity of his catalogue (not to mention his prodigious piano ability and versatile singing). Survivor have a pretty solid catalogue too which I'm a big fan of, very strong melodies and its hard to find a bad song on any of their albums.
@rainymoon9848 Жыл бұрын
@@halo13n I have Billy Joel's Essential Billy Joel Greatest Hits album. He definitely had huge stylistic diversity in his catalogue. Jim Peterik also has written/co-written songs in a wide variety of genres including: Blue-eyed soul/funk, folk, jazz, country, southern rock, prog rock (Tie-Dye Princess) , British invasion inspired Pop (in the band that evolved into the Ides of March), melodic rock, hard rock (i.e. the song Heavy Metal), even comedy with the song "2000 Year-Old Man" based on the famous comedy skit, I don't know what genre the song "Teenage Machine Age" would fall into, but, it is one of my favorites.

This is a great song (from the greatest Survivor album ever 'When Seconds Count)! It guided me through puberty. A great tribute to Jimi, really great performance by Toby and the whole band!! Some doubts about the audience... Even in the case that Jimi would've performed this live at his best, the audience would just share a minimal clapping, whispering to each other 'Barry Manilow is kind a hot these days....'. ;-)
@dragonlips20052 жыл бұрын
What a great tribute! Thanks for sharing. Two things- can @Jim Peterik confirm the scuttlebutt that Jimi basically nailed this song in one take!? I mean, it's one of my personal top 5 vocal performances of the 80's. Second- Does anyone have any footage of Survivor playing this song live? I can't seem to find anything. Was it ever played live?
@adrianbradley85134 жыл бұрын
I've asked this 100 times before and I'm asking it again"Why is AOR mentioned so little compared to Heavy Metal/ Rock?"The reason I'm asking for the 101st time is that this great song is only a minor Survivor song but it's brilliant.In fact when I mention AOR to most music fans they ask me"What's that?"I guess AOR is more great songs than publicity. Don't get me wrong I listened to Def Leppard as a teenager in the eighties but I think the fact that I didn't hear of the term AOR untill the nighties speaks volumes although of course I had heard of Survivor and their massive hit Eye Of The Tiger.

Is this song about the Prince of Peace? Without prejudice to someone beliefs, I think Survivor band gave us a beautiful song in reference to Him. Lyrics: Have you ever walked alone at night Like a man against the world No one takes your side A boat against the tide When your faith is shaken you start to break And your heart can't find the words Tossed upon the sand I give you a man against the world God speaking - The man against the world refers to Jesus Human - when Faith is shaken you start to break God Speaking - I give you a man that overcame the world which is Jesus Lyrics : All the people cheer 'til the end is near - when Jesus perform miracles all people are cheering and proclaiming His name until when Jesus was persecuted... Lyrics : And the hero takes a fall - when Jesus was about to be betrayed and to be taken Lyrics : Then they'll drag you through the mud because You're only flesh and blood - they don’t believe that Jesus is God because He is only flesh and He bleeds Lyrics : Alone I take my stand I'm only a man against the world But love, like a distant reminder It tugs at my shoulder It calls me home I shout, can a single voice carry Will I find sanctuary within your arms Someday when the answer's clearer someday when I even the score You'll reach and you'll find me near you Right beside you, forevermore But for now I'll walk the night alone Like a man against the world A brand new day will shine Through the avalanche oftime Now the road's grown long, but the spirit's strong And the fire within still burns Alone I take my stand I give you a man against the world He took all the sins in this world and He had ask God the Father if one single man can free the world from sins.But that is the will of the father and He knows when everything is done, when the score is even, that our sins are paid thru His blood, He will be at the right side of the Father forever interceding with us. And we will be having a brand new day in life if we believe in what He had done at the cross. HE overcame the world as human flesh and that is enough reminder to us, that we can also overcome the world with His Grace and mercy.

People may make the original choice to to get high the first time, but addiction is a disease. Even the tendency to try it is usually inherited. It speaks nothing of who one is as a person. Often, it's more related to a lack of proper mental or physical health care. My daughter is a neuroscience researcher and we have discussed the mechanisms of addiction, as I also have lost people.
