One person is dead after a suspect hijacked a Metro bus at gunpoint overnight, leading to a chase across Los Angeles before he was eventually taken into custody.

I live in LA, but I will never take public transportation. I went to Ireland last year and felt super safe on public transportation. There were hardly any homeless people. People were kind. Here in LA, you'll get stabbed just for looking at someone wrong.

I lived both in downtown LA near where this happened and Phoenix, and here is the same homeless problem but just spread all over from the west, north and south parts..even in suburban areas there's tents/carts in the parks, along the road, and gas stations are the worst because people just hang out 24/7. I've been followed and shouted at by homeless guys for not giving them money, as soon as you park they'll walk right up to you with their sob story begging for money when they are obviously high and looking for a fix, and have no care for how they approach. I've had to become very selective about where I go, for some reason they don't enforce loitering laws.

Retracting my comment below because I checked and apparently yes it has gotten worse than when I used to ride on LA buses. This is from USC and their campus is very close to downtown LA- Safety on Metro transit has worsened since 2019. According to an ABC News report, violent crime on buses and trains and in stations increased by nearly 55% between 2020 and 2023. This could account for why the majority of both returning and non-returning riders do not perceive public transit as safe.Jun 5, 2024 Retracting -Wow one incident and this is what your response is? I rode one of the busiest routes in the Los Angeles area for a few years. And rarely did I feel unsafe. However this is a major metropolitan and in absolutely every city center you take a risk if you're out at this time of night. So don't just point it LA because they're all like this..
