The story is still fuzzy but that’s what it sounds like. Those cliffs are far too unstable to climb without proper gear.

@@m9078jk3 i grew up on salmon beach just south of the point and as kids we knew to look at the tide chart before walking around the point. There are only a couple places to be able to climb if your lucky. If not ya have to wade as fast as you can around. The water is really cold and your muscle will start charlie horsing it's not good. If you end up out further in the water it's a large drop off there. All the guy needed to do is find a high spot and wait it out. The tide recedes then you walk around. It's better than trying to climb those cliffs. Most of them are just compacted sand and falling could kill you from that area.

@@m9078jk3 ya I live in the area and know that place well, so guy climbed the wall and didnt have to or the tide forced him? If your on that beach the tide doesnt just suddenly rise, maybe the news should explain the story better but sounds like they just wanted to report a death and not tell the story details.

Can someone please explain I do not understand the tide does not come in that quick how come someone can't just walk away when the tide starts coming in how does somebody get killed does anyone have an answer thank you

Point Defiance is a peninsula, and the shoreline continuously curves and turns. In addition, the terrain varies in height at the waterline. This means that they may have continued to walk around what seemed to be a safe shoreline, unaware that the tide came in and cut off the shoreline around a bend behind them.

Because we have allowed people to make it to adulthood without being responsible for their own safety. His wife made it safely to the car. He could have also. It is because of people like this that good safe trails get closed early in the year.

I live around here and when the tide comes in, it comes really fast. With the cliffs, tide goes out so you have beach to be on. But be slow and stupid when the tide starts coming back you no longer have any beach and the water is at and on that cliff wall and your stuck with nowhere to go and that is what this poor man probably went through. Water came in and he tried to climb away, (instead of following his wife🤦🏽‍♀️) It's sad and a hell of a way to die.

I’m sorry, but the guy was an idiot. You can see the tide coming in with each wave. Unless he was blind, he waited until he had a few feet of beach left and the trail out is gone? Wife left? Maybe they had an argument and he just stewed on the beach.
