”Took" you mean stole. I hope they leave it where the police is able to recover it and didn't throw it in the trash when they found no money.. More than likely they themselves won't turn it in since they are not trying to be arrested and after this tragedy they certainly don't want to answer any questions for sure

This where our rental car was stolen as well on a trip from Canada. The police recovered the car undamaged. We rented from Hertz rent a car for a month. Even though we were covered by insurance, Hertz never gave us a replacement car for our last 2 weeks and permanently banned us from ever renting another car from them again. We later found out that vehicles are regularly stolen from this location. Tourists should be very careful here. 3:15

As a retired tour guide I would always tell my people, don't go to a beach that doesn't have a lifeguard, leave all of your jewelry and important belongings back in your hotel room safe, do not leave anything in your car rental, secure your wallet and car keys in a waterproof pouch attached to your person. Hawai'i has a down side, a REAL down side! It's disgusting. Theft is common, there. It always has been. But, the following is also always true: 1) Never, ever leave your belongings ANYWHERE unattended. People cannot be trusted ANYWHERE not to steal. 2) Put your belongings in the trunk of your rental car. 3) Use a safety pin to attach rental car keys to your swim suits or other swim wear. You can keep yourselves safe. Leaving belongings UNATTENDED, ANYWHERE is not the way to do it.

Tourism, the military, and the agriculture are the main sources of income for the islands. How are we supposed to encourage the tourists to come if they are victimized while here? The young generation coming up is rotten. Not all of them, but a lot of them. No morals, no values, no aloha. They don't realize what a special and unique place Hawaii is. I'm born and raised here, grew up in the 60's and 70's. Hawaii was safe and sheltered from all the nonsense that happened on the mainland. Now we are as bad as every major city on the mainland. I feel sad that my grandchildren will never get to experience life in Hawaii the way that I did. Whomever stole the bags and rental car better give it back. People out there know who did it. Give it back. Those things are precious to that lady.

Stabbings have. I mean last year someone was stabbed right behind waikiki precinct. You look through any other posts now about hawaii and if some tourist mentions about the theft crime in hawaii they have at least 3 people say "that's what you get don't come back here we don't want you here" so it's not even shamed on towards tourist anymore. There have been A LOT of tourist snorkel deaths in Hawaii. Apparently, it strains the heart to use certain types of snorkels, which can be unknowingly rented or purchased, and then the snorkeler quietly expires from the low oxygen in the body resulting in not enough oxygen circulating to the brain and the person very suddenly passes out in the water, drowning. Snorkel risks should be better publicized.

@@Andy_Holmes Hawaiian natives (pacific islanders) are growing increasingly racist against nonislanders (anyone not from the island natively). there has been an increase in violence as islanders are, in their eyes, trying to defend their home from invading tourists who disrespect the island and its people, leave it trashed and go home. I'm encouraging everyone wanting to visit the islands to rethink their decision and choose another island to visit instead. a lot of non-islander folks are ended up beaten, kidnapped, dead or disappeared. it's always been my dream to see Hawaii since i was little, but i believe the wishes of the people who live there natively are much more important than my desire to see the place, and i'm going to respect that and not visit.
@Andy_Holmes
@Andy_Holmes Жыл бұрын
@@foxbuns The problem isn't as severe as you seem to believe. I've lived here fifteen years and haven't heard of too many cases regarding this, and not any kidnappings or deaths. For one thing there aren't that many natives here, they're only a small fraction of the population. I've heard there's actually more Hawaiians living in Vegas. And most of them are decent people, despite many sharing feelings of antiwhitism - a better term I think for what you call nonislander racism, as their contempt is predominantly directed towards white people. Still very few act out on their prejudice. As long as you have money to support yourself, Hawaiians don't seem to care too much. The economy is dependent on tourism, and everyone with minimal intelligence understands that. I don't think the fear of natives should prevent you or anyone from visiting Hawaii.

Lived on a island for twenty years, Heaven………. then came the cruise ships, bit by bit chewing off the island , those mom and pop shops..? gone.. serenity replaced with a T-shirt shop. But hey, that’s progress……... I’m thankful that I grew up without technology, I’ll use it now, helps me keep in touch and I love KZbin, and I’ll keep in my memory those days spent, not in front of a game, the only light from a screen, but in the warmth of the sun and the beckoning call of friends to go play, …..outside……where the world was ours……….

Nick Frischke still hasn't been found. He is the tip of a very large iceberg. The only reason the world knows about him is because he wasn't born in the country. Although there is a huge amount of intracultural violence in certain cultures, vulnerable cultures (a high-average quotient and very low violent crime statistics) are preyed upon constantly. In countries listed as having a low-average quotient of the stuff that matters, staggeringly high violent crime statistics are usually par for the course. A young man travelling from a relatively safe country should have been warned, surely, that not all cultures have low violent crime statistics and that predatory aggression is usually rife in such countries. Predatory aggression is random violence inflicted on strangers (the victims are usually not known to the predator).

So tragic. And the locals make it worse with the usual petty crime. What I hate is that there is zero peer pressure among locals to discourage criminal activity. West Oahu is the worst. Too many locals there treat tourists like free pickings. And that laid back island spirit coming off the locals often hides hearts full of addiction, bitterness, cunning, sneakiness, and race hatred toward mainlanders. I was a fifteen year kamaaina who lived all over Oahu so I know what I am talking about. People need Jesus.

I am so sorry for this family’s loss and hope they can find comfort in one another during this time. I hope her family can be there to help her get through this and that she is treated with aloha: kindness, love and respect; until she makes it home safely. To her husband rest in peace and may he make it to the other side and always watch over her. A lei should be woven for him and an apology sent to her from Islanders that in her time of loss she also had to endure being robbed and left without her most essential items and transportation. I hope she has someone looking out for her. This is devastating and tragic and I hope other commenters will consider the human being going through this loss before they use this as a place to dump ugly words and bad feeling. Now is not the time. Those issues can be worked out elsewhere. Please have respect for this family and allow them to be left alone about what is or isn’t good about the islands and Nanakuli and just send kind and genuine warnings to other visitors so that they can be safe here as our guests. Yes all visitors need to be good guests. But while in our home we also should help make sure they are safe and be kind to them if something terrible like this happens while in our home.

Those tourists would have to go to the consulate to get temporary return documents and tickets if needed. A lot of times they missed their flights because they had to stay an extra day or two before they could get return documents.

Such a tragedy that he drowned. The theft happens anywhere, you can't leave valuables unattended anywhere, any park or beach. Decades ago I was in the Caribbean and saw a woman walking away with my bag I had left on my towel and I made her give it back. Another time in California I started walking off from my towel and stuff on a remote beach and noticed a couple veering toward my stuff when I looked back. I turned around, they saw me and veered away again. You have several choices. You can be vigilent and nearby like my second experience, which is not very relaxing, you can leave your valuables locked in the hotel safe or car trunk, you can hide the actual small valuables and leave a decoy bag in the trunk or on the towel, you can secure just the keys in your swimgear if the fob is waterproof, or you can go with others and take turns leaving to play so the stuff is not unattended. Criminal opportunists are sadly common so you have to assume they are anywhere.
