Amen, I follow a couple trail magic vloggers who intro hikers with channels. I figured, "lovin' Maddie's journey, why not check out other perspectives and versions of the trail?" I'll tell you why not... don't bother. Sticking with you, Girl ; you're the best.

“If you’re anticipating the end during the experience you’re going to miss out on the experience.” BINGO, you nailed it. That’s why I never got the Virginia blues. Because everyday was a new experience and everyday was a new section of trail I’d never hiked before. That’s what I was there for. Keep living the dream….every day.

You are so right Maddie about the way you look at the journey and are not just focused on the end. I just discovered your channel and really enjoy your content and especially your attitude. I am subscribed and look forward to the rest of your journey!

Whoot!!! 1/4 of the trail finished! I saw you visited the 4 sided stone shelter with the swing door. Last year when I was hiking up to it, it was a cold drizzling rain. When I got there, there was about a dozen other hikers already in the shelter every bunk was taken. I found a spot on the floor underneath the bunk to the left as you come in. I ate an early dinner to warm myself up and started changing into my dry sleeping clothes. I asked if there was any women in the shelter and all the guys said no. As I was putting on my fleece leggings I heard the door swing open. It immediately slammed shut as I was pulling up my leggings. Through the door we heard a woman's voice asking if it was okay to come in. She had seen my bare butt as I was changing. That's how she got her trail name, Moonshine! 😂😂😂

Wow your feelings and outlook of the trail has changed so much since Springer. You were pretty timid back then, rarely talking to anyone and hiking on you own but now you have a tramily, the weather has changed and you're having fun and constantly smiling. It will get hot but you will have cool days thrown in too. If it is at all possible try to hike early and try to get to some water for swimming or just soaking during the hottest 2 - 3 hours of the day. Eat your supper while there and then start hiking again as it starts to cool off and hike until close to dark. You can still sit around with your friends and just eat some snacks before bed. If you do hike in the middle of the day, the heat will drain you of energy and you will be dragging. I'm so glad that you're having fun and your smile is infectious. I am now smiling throughout your videos. You are doing great, and hiking strong. You got this girl..........now it's just walking! Have fun Maddie, this trail will change your life forever. geek

Congratulations on your 1/4-of-the-way landmark Maddie! You're doing great! You're getting stronger both physically and psychologically! Glad to see you caught up with your tramily. You seem happier when you're among other hikers. Also, really glad your poison ivy is starting to subside, that's one less discomfort to deal with. As always, we all enjoy your journey and are grateful to you for taking us along! Be safe and ENJOY!

Were those cute animals llamas? It looks like those furry creatures got a summer haircut. I love to share tribal knowledge and want to share some tips with you. You are already a very experienced hiker so I apologize in advance if you already know some of the tips I am giving you. The poison ivy plant leaves an irritating oil on your skin. The best remedy for poison ivy is washing the irritating oil off your skin with soap and water. The longer the oil stays on your skin the more of a reaction it causes. It's very difficult to wash on the trail, but if you can wash, rinse or brush your hair it will reduce pollen getting into your eyes when you sleep at night. Most plants release most of their pollen at night. You probably do this already, but zipping up most of the mosquito netting on your tent at night will reduce some of the pollen from entering your tent. You can also periodically rinse your face and eyes with clean water to reduce irritating pollen in your eyes. If you have an N-95 face mask from the Covid days that can also reduce pollen exposure during intense allergic moments. If you find a cool stream it's good to soak your feet and hands in cool water to lower your body temperature. Your feet and hands have glabrous skin and special capillaries that are very efficient at cooling the body. After you soak your feet be sure to dry them off before hiking again to reduce the chance for blisters. (Leuko tape is excellent for treating and preventing blisters.) You can also dunk your shirt in a cool stream and put it on. That will really cool you down. It's going to be humid so you may not have the best evaporative cooling from a soaking shirt. You are going to want to wear shorts to keep cool. If, however, you are hiking through tall grass I recommend wearing pants treated with Permethrin to avoid ticks. Be sure to treat your pants, socks and boots/shoes with Permethrin. Tuck your pants into your socks to keep ticks from crawling on you. Avoid sitting on or hiking through tall grass if you can. Ticks also hang out in leaf litter. If you stick to bare ground you should be good with avoiding ticks. Have a friend do a tick check if you suspect you have a tick on you. Your videos are fun and awesome. Thanks for sharing. Congratulations on completing 25 percent of the AT. Also, congratulations on doing some serious miles!

Congratulations on reaching the 1/4-way mark! I'm in awe of you being able to hike 23+ miles on successive days - I don't think I've ever done more than about 12-13 (20 km) with an overnight pack! Nice to see the mountain laurel in bloom - I really liked seeing that in Shenandoah when we lived in MD.

Try grounding while you sleep for a better nights rest by placing your barefeet on the ground while sleeping. There are grounding items that work without you touching the ground but just try the free version of using your feet first and see if that helps with your resting and recovery. Usually there is a barrier between the human and the earth that separates the earth from the humans.

Not really 'very hot' until you're hiking in the high 90s. Since you're at Southern VA in June, you might just have those coming yet. When the sweat runs off your body onto your legs making you think you have a leaking water bottle. Impossible to drink enough water to replenish in that so you'll have to be careful of dehydrating.
