Because this was a canal and therefore home to rats and their urine, there's a chance of contracting Leptospirosis. If this progresses into Weil's Syndrome it can be fatal. Catching it is not 100% certain, so hopefully it all turned out well. BTW, I'm no doctor, so am happy to be corrected. Top marks to this young fella, both for his humanitarian efforts and for his taste in shirt design!
