Sounds like it has a Renk Doromat 874 H gearbox. I could hear a faint Voith noise, but, it was said that in 1988, the gearbox would shift lower betweeen 2nd-3rd gear for better economy.

Certainly has a Voith, seen the trans for myself, let alone having driven it many times since. Beautiful beast, but I still prefer a ZF.
