Spreading the love for Geoff's (and VoicePlay's) music. I was collecting a grocery pickup last week while Geoff's "Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold" was playing over my car stereo. The young man loading my groceries commented about how great the song sounded, so I told him about Geoff's and VoicePlay's YT channels. He commented that he was a musician who did some arranging and recording himself. When I collected groceries this morning, the same guy was loading a pickup order into the vehicle parked next to mine. When he finished, he came over to thank me and said that I had really started something for him. He's plunged headfirst down my favorite rabbit hole. He thanked me earnestly for last week's info and commented that Geoff's "Man of Constant Sorrow" is his favorite version of this song. However, he hadn't noticed Geoff's added bridge....said he'd have to go back to re-listen.

Just love this guy's voice, have been in love with the deep bass since the late 1950's when we had a bass singer who performed at our annual picnic. Growing up we used to hike along the rails frequently, to get to our favorite fishing hole, with a can of worms, a cane pole and a couple of hooks, thank goodness the right of way was wide, and we could evade the train. What a mournful sound those old steam whistles made in that river canyon. The drivers knew that us kids would go down along the tracks to go fishing and they sounded their whistles frequently, so we knew they were coming. Just discovered Mr. Castellucci's music and have fallen in love with it, he puts a whole new twist to old songs, I am now pushing 80 and still can fall in love for a good bass singer. To all who read this. May you all have a Happy and a prosperous year 2025. RAvK, LPN (ret) HM2c(FMF)/USN, Sgt/USA/USAR, 1968-94 1st Gulf War Combat Disabled Veteran

@@jonadabtheunsightly I only listed ones that dropped since January 1st. But each is impressive in its own right. In the Hall of the Mountain King is impressive for taking a world-renowned all-instrumental piece and making it a capella. But not every song will always be a hit with everyone. It is kind of like food. Or designs for wheels on a car. It is very personable. Like I first got hooked on VoicePlay with Oogie Boogie and followed that rabbit hole, and wanted to learn more about Geoff and his insanely low notes. And came across Far Over the Misty Mountains. But I recognize that VoicePlay, Geoff, Home Free, The Bass Gang, and others are breaking the traditional mold by putting out songs on a regular basis instead of the social norm, generally speaking.

Trains are incredibly loud, the ground rumbles when they approach, and the conductors honk the horn incessantly, particularly near residential areas. A train is not going to sneak up on you unless you are deaf and also not paying attention. At least in America. Speed rail is a whole different animal, but those don't exist in America.

I vote that every bridgeless song on earth gets a bridge from you! Beautiful rendition of that classic song!! You mention railroad tracks. By God's grace I am here today because when I was a toddler we lived next to railroad tracks. Fortunately these tracks only lead to a paper mill. One day my mother heard a knock on the door and when she answered she saw a man in a typical engineers outfit and behind him stopped on the tracks was a large train. He was carrying a small child in his arms and was asking if this child belonged to her. She turned pale as it was me and the engineer told her he saw me playing on the tracks and barely had time to stop the train to keep from hitting me. I've known and heard of many people who got hit by trains who aren't with us today but for some reason God saw fit to keep me around. Like you said, don't walk on railroad tracks.

Looking forward to it! There's been quite a few twists and turns for you in your quest to perfect this one and am glad the rest of the world is going to get a chance to see this!

The thing that makes this arrangement and video perfect is the hint of hopefulness throughout. The inscription on the back of the card, the bridge that you added, and the bouquet of baby's breath. Oh, my heart, that is the sweetest, saddest, and most hopeful thing I've ever seen!!

Song and video were awesome, of course. But my favorite part was the disclaimer at the end! Trains are big and strong, you are soft and squishy. Love it!
