A few years back, My wife and I bought a unit in Nashville, which is about 140 miles from where I live. We found lots of great things, including a box with 70 indian head pennies from the late 1800's and some old silver coins from the same era. There was an old coat hanging across the arm of a chair in the unit. My wife found $2000,00 in the inside pocket of the coat. 20 One hundred dollar bills! Great day, great find, and a great adventure for sure.

As an accountant, I can't help but run the numbers. If the owner paid $100 a month for 35 years, that $42,000 just for storage costs. It's so easy to get a unit and suddenly it's 10 years later...speaking from experience. We had definitely paid more in storage fees that the value of the items we had in there.

Had to laugh when they didn't know who Rufus and Chaka Khan and Earth Wind And Fire were. It was a different time. No cell phones, not internet, no digital world at all. People still posted accounts in ledgers by hand or typewriter. Back then we actually needed more and more office space.

J Bud Clark was a former mayor of Portland, Oregon from 1985 through 1992 and a graduate of Reed College. He was also a marine. I point that out because of the meticulous nature of the clothing you found. So neatly folded. If it turns out this was his storage unit, you have more than just a gold mine on your hands, you have an invaluable piece of Portland history. Those pictures alone would be an invaluable gift to the Portland Museum of Art. If you donate them, you might be able to cover the tax assessment for the items you sell. By the way, an interesting note of fact, in 1978, J Bud Clark tarred in a popular poster as a guy flashing a nude downtown statue, with the motto “Expose Yourself to Art.” Look it up' it's really cute. I can understand him not being familiar with the groups because of age, but it is odd that he doesn’t seem to want to even read the name right in front of him. I cringed when he went over that group of albums you mentioned and fast forwarded. Agree not too much money in most that I saw in the albums. More value there to older people like me who used to own them when they first came out. Jazz stuff may be older but some were 70’s-80’s reissues.

Check the Red Tab: Take a look at the right back pocket. Do you see our famous red tab? Is the word LEVI'S® in all capital letters, or does it have a small letter “e” instead? The Tab with LEVI'S (also known as “Big E”) means the jeans are from before 1971. Where the red Tab was considered a trademark of the 501®, the brand wanted to differentiate other kinds of Levi's® clothing - such as the fashion denim, like bell-bottoms and boot cuts, which came out in the 1960s. With that, the Levi's® orange Tab was used to set these apart

Schwinn's factory was in Chicago. So at one time, all the Scwinns in the US were from Chicago. I bought a Schwimn varsity 10 speed in 1978

I dunno if it's because I'm in the UK or not, but glad to see your enthusiasm.... If it were the UK, I'd be so p!ssed I'd got such a sh!tty storage bin... I used to buy palletised good/returns and I know how hard it is to get rid... Nightmare.....

Great video and unit! All kinds of good stuff… honestly it seems like maybe the person who owned all the stuff passed away and their loved ones packed everything up back in the 80s cause they didn’t know how to process. Either way these things will find a new home now :) and the Dust hard attack record is a killer hard rock record, the drummer is Marc Bell aka marky Ramone, pre-ramones, can’t remember value but probably a $50 record in that condition, the Gil-Scott heron and Brian Jackson is also pretty decent, maybe $50, and the John Coltrane love supreme is worth a lot of it’s a first press, judging from the era of the records it’s probably a reissue, still worth decent money.

The items are no longer personal items when no one claims them especially after 23 years or so. I would think k that is a long time the person was given. And whoever it was must be pretty important.

I dropped a stack of plates on an asphalt tile kitchen floor in 1987 when I was washing dishes in our college family apartment as we had a baby in a walker at that time. Those plates shattered in circular shards like knives! I had to sweep, vacuum, and go over the entire floor with wet paper towels to get all the glass up. I threw the rest out and never used that brand again in my life😂. EDIT: I think mine was Correlle.. lol

Oh my gosh, what happened to the renter 35 years . The owner either passed in prison moved and just left everything. so someone was paying. the rental fee. I had a storage for 20 years but Thank Goodness, I carried insurance. Allegedly the storage warehouse burned completely down. I did get some compensation but not worth, the real cost of my belongings. Hardly anything is made in USA, anymore. This was sad to watch because I kept wondering what happened that someone would pay rental fees for 35 years and then stop!! So did the entire family die,in an accident, plane crash etc.. That motorcycle and Scwhinn bicycle total is probably worth more than a thousand dollars.

Probably a gun in the briefcase. Those suitcases were so neatly packed,as if the owner just stored for a short time. This looks like someone was going to another country, but for reason had to store until they came back. Do you every know who owned the storage unit. I wonder if the owner was a college student and stored their belongings for Summer break. and something happened but what is confusing.who paid the rental fees. So sad.

I get a good laugh at you kids and how you feel about all of the things I grew up with. Wish I'd kept some things, but who's to know what the future gens would think. The albums aren't worth much so far. I would probably a couple of them but wouldn't pay more than 5 bucks for them. Some might be valuable but don't get too excited. Gotta check out part 2. Aloha for now.

you really have a good eye and I can tell you that most of the stuff in that time capsule is really decent - remember this is right at the tail end of when the USA still made clothes and clothing was quality, I would kill for a lot of that because most of it will never wear out compared to todays crap. everything in that locker is really also at the tail end of when things weren't crap. lots of those jackets have both a store tag and a makers tag - I am clothes collector and there are a lot of great vintage makers in there, eBay is calling...those Arrow Brigade New Old Stock shirts are bank.

Hi wade, the Schwinn varsity bike can go from $400 to a few thousand dollars. Depends on the age, condition etc. the model number and date code will be on a small silver sticker by the crank arm on the opposite side of the chain. It’s above the pedals on the frame of the bike

Years and years ago I lived in the Portland area. My sister babysat for a radio personality. He told us that storing your vinyl albums with the plastic wrap on them can ruin them. The plastic wrap can shrink in the heat and warp the album. Just because the plastic is still on them doesn't mean they are new.
