You have missed the plot of the movie. Akash is someone who'll tell any kind of story to get him that sympathetic approach. In the end it's shown that akash use the cane with a handle of "hare". Why did he choose hare as the handle? What really transpired at the end was, Simi was killed (for the organ surgery), akash and doctor split the money, akash got his eye surgery done. The story of "accident" was something made up by akash to make sohphie like him again.

That wasn't the reason why he pretended to be blind though. That was just a happy accident/the result of why he really did it-- because he felt that sight stifled his creativity. He could see the music with his eyes shut. Plus, he was being as good a musician as he possibly could already. I don't think it had anything to do with ego. It sounded like a Christopher Nolan movie. The start of the movie is actually the ending. And then leaving us questioning in the end. These are the tricks employed by Nolan. Great movie. Hats off to the writer !!!

You forgot to mention what happened to manohar...he got trapped in an elevator by zaku but building was empty so no one could hear him ..in panic he shoot at the door but bullet just hit the elevators door and wall and hit manohar's leg so we can assume he bled out there
