A soldier, weary after a long tour of duty, boards a civilian aircraft for her last leg home. As she shuffles through first class on her way to economy, a man stands up and tells her she’s in his seat. It can’t be, she thinks as she fumbles for her ticket. Her seat is further back, and she hasn’t even reached it yet. But the man is adamant, and refuses to let her sit in her assigned seat. A little later, an astonishing note changes hands. The soldier and the man are no more the only people involved in this situation. What unfolds next will put tears in your eyes!

When I was coming home, after being injured, I took my seat and the flight attendant came and said someone was trading seats with me. I didn’t understand. An individual in first class was giving up their seat. He wanted me to be comfortable and have a good meal. I will never, for as long as I live, forget that kindness. I was dumbfounded and embarrassed and humbled. He said he had never served but he was able to have the life he had because of people like me who allowed him his freedoms. It’s been 18 years and it is still very humbling and brings tears to my eyes. I was a front line combat medic. Thank you, I don’t know your name but I still remember and always will.

While my story doesn't involve a seat switching, it does involve someone helping a soldier. When my son came home from Korea due to my husband being on life support, his credit card didn't work when he tried to pay for his rental car. The man behind him in line waved at the clerk and said, "Put his car on my credit card. This soldier needs to get home to his family." My son was stunned and thanked the gentleman, asking for his contact information, so he could reimburse him. I emailed the man, thanking him for his kindness and he said if it happened again, he would do the same thing. Heroes don't always wear the uniform; sometimes they just do what's right.

This story I find so appropriate nearing Memorial Day. As I have never served our country in the military, yet hold the greatest respect for those who have. Our dad and brother both served WWII and Vietnam respectively. I believe my duty is to vote responsibly in our elections and support traditional values that God has Graced our nation with. Our Freedom is not free and we owe to those who have shed their blood and given their lives so that we may live. Thank you veterans and may God Bless you abundantly.

My husband was a Vietnam veteran & 13 year military, my brother a Retired Navy, , uncle , cousins, also military. My brother went around the world on ship At least 3 times. The Vietnam vets were given respect. After my husband died there was an event to honor them. Sadly my husband was no longer in this earth to witness this . Were called baby killers not so. It was the other Vietnam soldiers that would strap bombs on the children & send them into our camps. Can’t remember if it was South r north. I know we were fighting with one one of them. Our men & women deserve respect.

Trust me your husband witnessed it! We owe so much but give so little to our vets and it was college kids that treated our Vietnam vets so bad like calling them baby killers and spitting on them without a clue what they had to go through. They did it cause they didn't have the courage to sacrifice ALL like your husband did and we see it today to always protesting from the safe country that your husband and other vets provided. May your husband rest easy and thanks for y'alls service cause if the head of the household serves the whole family does too. Thank you!

No one would know how good a business class seat feels after a life time of Economy flights? Especially when travelling with an untreated fractured femur in a brace. It was pure luxury to actually to layout flat in the inflight bed with pillow and blanket. Having a travel nurse in the seat next to me, giving me a sedative shot so I could sleep on the midnight flight home.

My God. Thank you - anyone who has surrendered their seat to a soldier. My grandmother was an RN in WWII. She got some leave time, but not enough to make it all the way home to Indiana. So she went to visit cousins in alabama. IN HER UNIFORM, she got on a bus. NOT ONE PERSON would give up their seat for her.. IN HER FUKKIN' UNIFORM!! So she, being the woman my grandmother was, walked right on past alllll the MEN SITTING DOWN and went to the back where there was an empty seat. She took it, without a second thought. Her very strong character aside, she had been MARCHING ACROSS EUROPE IN WINTER for months. She was EXHAUSTED and it was an empty seat. She was summarily asked IMMEDIATELY to leave the bus. So she did. With her head high and with great dignity.... followed by every single black person on the bus. She asked them if they knew where she could get a good hot meal (she had been getting one fresh egg a month). They all said the same thing. They took her to a "blacks only" diner. And she bought all their meals. (Please understand, I am recounting this in my grandma's words.... I, of course have never known such a world. Apparently, neither had my Grammy. I have always been very proud.) Thank you Sir.

Thank you for sharing your “Grammy’s” story. I have, unfortunately, been on both ends while in uniform - being humbled by someone’s kindness and generosity and also be ridiculed and mocked, shamed, disrespected and humiliated. Two sides of the same coin that we knowingly accept when we enlist. I would have been honored and privileged to have met your grandmother, she sounds like an amazing, lovely, strong woman. When I was in the military traveling dressed like the person you showed in this video was not allowed. That uniform is what was called BDU's, bivouac duty uniforms. These were for working in not being out in public off base. If you want to wear a uniform off base you wore your dress uniform. If you lived off base you could wear your bdu's to get to work andthen home, as long as you didn't make any stops along the way. Not even a gas stop. We always made sure our vehicles had plenty of gas in the tank. Ifyou wanted coffee for your drive then fill your cup at home.
