An operator friend would give a passenger without fare a transfer ticket & tell them to take the next bus. It resolved the issue almost every time.

Over here in Seattle, King County Metro has a strict rule to not get into fare disputes due to the accident in 1998 where the person who got into a fare dispute with a driver shot him causing the bus to fly off of the Aurora Bridge. Life is more valuable than 2.75.

As a trolleybus operator on busy routes I learned very early to NEVER get out of your seat, NEVER argue, TURN OFF the trolley and wait for the police...on busy routes you won't have to wait long...ALWAYS have them charged...ZERO tolerance! After awhile I had people step back rather than board my bus because they knew their story/explanation wasn't going to work on me.

Thats RTC Vegas and they are very forceful about their "No Courtesy Ride" policy. Here in ATL at MARTA we are allowed to defend ourselves but CANNOT be the aggressor, nor are we supposed to get into any type of dispute over the fare. We are supposed to definitely state the fare and thats all. It is up to us if we want to grant a courtesy ride.

When I used to live in Akron, Ohio, I was actually surprised when on some certain days getting on, I was just about to put my money in for the bus fare, and the bus driver actually says to me, "Go ahead and sit down, ma'am. It's Saturday so the rides are free"

Dude you trying to put in that damaged dollar bill killed me. Yo I deal with that DAILY. The Genfare always rejects the bill and asks me what the hell it is. Passengers whip dollar bills out from the back of their underwear or something.

Lucky for me nobody pays here in Melbourne, its something most people take pride in not realizing its not a drivers job to make them pay. Sometimes passengers can get a touch narky and argue amongst themselves but I ask them to stop as I don't wantr passengers to get hit for it.

Here in Boise Idaho where I live with the transit system called Boise valley ride the only time you don't have to pay is if you show your school ID to the bus driver and that's K- college

I get people who sometimes sneak in and literally sneak in behind someone trying to ride for free or people who don’t complete the fair because they don’t have the exact change and just walk in without telling me anything, JUST BE HONEST WITH THE DRIVER. Some are cool and I understand some are not but just be like hey I don’t have enough or something Ik we all sometimes are short and are going through stuff but don’t sneak in please it will just hold up everyone’s day and sometimes PD will come over $1.. don’t make it a bigger deal
