Boxers, retrievers and collies are the best dogs for children. Spaniels used to be until they were so overbred for that reason, that they became aggressive and unreliable for that purpose anymore. And another breed that used to be called the Nanny Dog in history is the pitbull, because before they were used by cruel men (notice how it's always men that do dog fighting, women at those are only brought by men as dates) for dog fighting, they were the breed along with spaniels that looked after the children, which is why those 2 breeds are pictured in historical paintings with the children. If pitbulls aren't made aggressive in dog fighting purposes, their actual natural behavior is very tender and sweet. They will be very loving to ALL creatures and want to take care of them if left to their own devices. I've personally seen them on farms take care of newborn animals like kittens and chicks, that they will let crawl all over them and groom them gently. Research of facts and not opinions about each breed, and of course using them for their natural behaviors is what makes dogs shine. 😊

Dogs KNOW. Growing up, we had a German Shepherd. He was very reactive to cats and there were times my mom would come back from walks with skinned knees or palms because he saw a cat and pulled her off her feet. I walked starting when I was 9 years old and he never once pulled. He'd see a cat and freeze. I could feel him lock his muscles. He never once pulled, he knew I was a child. Dogs are an absolute gift.

Perhaps he thought of your mom as his protector and could “be a kid” when she was walking him. With you, he thought of himself as your protector and he had to be “the adult”. My dog has always walked so much better for my kids, but she tests my patience every step of the way! 😆

My almost 3 year old has a beautiful bond with one of our dogs. I never thought our Male Malamute would fall in love with little kids. When my son started walking our dog would lay across the bottom stair so he couldn’t climb up, if my son started running too fast our Mal would follow him and try to grab his diaper or back of his shirt to slow him down but he would do it in a way you could tell he was making sure he only grabbed the shirt or diaper never skin. Our dog will lay on the couch with him or let him climb all over. It’s so cute to see. We rescued our Malamute when he was 8 months old and the animal shelter said no kids, or other animals and he was aggressive (according to his former owner who surrendered him). Not once has he growled or shown any aggression to anything or anybody. When I would take him for walks he would get excited to see other dogs so my dad started bringing his dog around to see and test him and he loved having a friend. So eventually we got another dog and they love each other. In 5 years they have never had any sort of issue. When I found out I was pregnant I got scared and wasn’t sure what to do with the dog when the baby came. So we would take him for walks by this park with kids and he loved seeing the kids play and would bounce around when kids would come near him. The day we brought the baby home my husband put a muzzle on him and the leash to do slow introductions and it was amazing like he knew this little baby in my arms was something fragile and precious he got really low was super excited but slowly crawled over to me with his tail going a million miles an hour and just sniffed and wiggled around. For the next few months he would sit in front of the door of whatever room I was in and would howl if the door was closed and it sounded sad finally we let him get closer and closer and he was perfect. My son’s third word after mama and dada was Fluff which is the nickname we call our dog. They are best friends and when our other dog gets hyper even now Fluff will stand in front of my son to make sure the other dog doesn’t knock him over or anything and when he is upset fluff is right there to make sure he’s okay by giving him kisses or just laying next to him. I had to put a taller gate up because he wouldn’t stop hopping over it into my son’s room to cuddle at nap times 🤦🏼♀️. If you made it this far sorry for the long story. I just think dogs and the bonds they make with certain people and kids is fascinating and I love sharing the bond my dog has with my son. ❤

There really is something about Boxer's! I also love Boxers but GSD's, Pugs, Pitty's, Terriors, Goldies, Chi's, Heinz 57's and every breed of Dog gently trained and beloved treated as family adore and protect their loved ones. I've rescued abused Dogs so broken - yet patience and love with gentle repetitive training changed them into confident family members. And 90% were adopted from kill "shelters." The rest were rescued from direct abusers or abandonment. My daughter was saved from a man stalking her at a safe park in daylight by her GSD. Thank you, Max 1❤ The stalker was arrested a week later sttacking a teenaged girl. Each one of our Dogs saved one or more of us when we needed them the most. Even our silly English Sheepdog woke me at 3 a.m. and pulled me to a window. Someone had started a fire by burning a junk car the neighbor had in his backyard hoping to restore it. There was a very dry spell and Misty Blue saved us and possibly a good part of our neighborhood. Quick action with hoses made the difference till the FD quickly arrived. And one of our Heinz 57's held on to our 3 year old as she almost escaped the yard climbing our "unclimbable" fence. I was planting pansies 10 ' away. What a lesson. She was kicking him but he had her shirt back tightly and eyes squeezed when I heard the quiet and looked up. Mercy. Every canine is at his or her Best when truly loved❤ Every Breed hss Great Value for Families when various Lifestyles are considered. I am leery of Dobies and Chows from personal experience yet the loyalty of a Doberman to my friend's baby through the years was pure love and gently trained protection. An elderly couple adopted a Chow despite my advice of a Pug or Goldie and the couple was spot on. They were the happiest 3 Souls you could imagine. Forgive please, but had to speak up for all my beloved Dogs I was blessed to have as family in my long life❤ Ancestry, as in humans, does not determine your value. Love does.

@@brendamaun5455 awe sorry to hear that. They can be fearful of loud noises like fireworks, gun shots, vehicle back fires etc. I agree with you. They get traumatized and they don't come back to normal. It's so sad to watch them go through that. They need a special home then where there's no loud kids, or other noises. I've noticed that they develop an anxiety with a body tremble. For some strange reason they have this built into their DNA. A way to cope I guess.
@nturavrgchick60554 ай бұрын
@@brendamaun5455 same thing happened to us with our Lab, and they're the ones considered to be one of the best breeds to be around children. She can take being around our grandkids for a couple of hours. But then all that activity and noise gets to her and can make her unpredictable. Thankfully she's never bitten any of them or we wouldn't be able to keep her. But she has barked very viciously at them when this behavior first started (triggered by a serious injury). Just have to watch her body language closely and remove her as soon as we see any of her nervous behaviors. Dogs will tell us when they've had enough through their body language - if we pay attention.

@@deidradahl2802the powerful enzymes in dogs ' saliva are disinfectant them selves. That's why dogs can lick everything without getting virus or bacteria . I talked about it mamy years ago both with a physician and veterinarians.
@deidradahl28024 ай бұрын
@@EuterpeVegan I think for myself, I never listen to the '''experts''. The physician and veterinarians can tell all that to the man and woman who lost all four limbs after allowing dogs to lick them. Dogs should never be in the house in the first place. It was discovered that humans should never live with animals from the Middle Ages, now we have come full circle. I never accept food from people with dogs when visiting their home. I see the unclean situation. but hey, to each his own.

Right!?! The reason allergies blew up after the 1950's, before which practically NOBODY had anything except like, mild seasonal allergies, is not enough dirt as kids ...lol. Being around animals helps to keep kids from developing asthma, contact, and even food allergies. It helps properly develop the histamine response. I definitely agree across the board, teach dogs not to lick. I don't see him licking this kid.
@ArtemisFox014 ай бұрын
@@deidradahl2802 I own six dogs and they are indoor and outdoor dogs and the other person saying that dogs tongues are mostly clean is true the reason that man lost his limbs was probably from infection from dirt or other things not from a dog licking it my uncle almost lost his finger from a pretty deep cut getting infected but his dog licked it and it saved his finger the main reason dogs are unsanitary are if they roll in their own poop which you can tell if a dog does and imagine being so stingy that if someone who has a dog offers you food you refuse to eat it your acting like they boil the pasta with the dogs pee and slobber
