Dude, there is a pocket in the black cover, the instructions and the spikes are there. You didn't need the instruction anyway, Great job. I just got one for the beach.

Those corner locking brackets slide down as you close the frame, so all you have to do is clear the bottom edge of the canopy from where it wraps around those brackets and it should collapse with the canopy still attached. The issue is that with the canopy still attached the frame may not collapse enough to fit back in the bag/box but it will be quicker to raise and lower when you need to use it.

Could you tell how many inches it is between the bottom of the legs?

It's in storage for the moment (it's too hot now to be outside even with the canopy!) so I can't measure it, but it should be 10 feet across the legs and 8 feet across the top.
