Fun fact! Some oil rigs do float! they are balanced using ballast tanks in their legs. This style of rig is used for deep water drilling. You should definitely look into the game Still Wakes the Deep. I think it fits the vibe here well

9:30 what he’s saying (in brazilian portuguese): Smth smth their boat is sinking, and they’re waiting for their partners (other fishermen) that are around to show up and help them. I couldnt find whether they were rescued or not, but likely yes. Small boats like these usually arent too far apart from each other and they take account of other small boats around them :)

That oil rig actually IS floating. I went on a deep dive (punny) because oil rigs baffle me, & these ones have the legs going into a water filled pontoon kind of thing underneath so it can move with the waves rather than try to withstand them. Then there are like guide wires attached to the sea floor. It's all nightmare fuel, & I don't even have thalassophobia (just anxiety & curiosity).

In my experience snorkeling is honestly worse because every time you surface you’re reminded just how much water is around you. When you’re on scuba you’re on the bottom so you know nothing is gonna come up and get you

9:00 A rough translation of the entire audio “As I was saying, we got one here (I think they’re talking about the wave?) and it ended up getting the phone wet. As you can see the entire ship is submerged under the water (Then there was a strong wind and I can’t hear the next part properly) we already removed the cloth and did a bunch of stuff. And that’s it y’all, we are going adrift, there’s some buddies there and we are hoping that someone comes by”

Imagine you're swimming underwater and you see a giant hotdog, but since you are American, it makes you incredibly hungry so you swim after it to eat it, and you swim deeper and deeper and deeper chasing this hotdog, but you never catch it
@13fyrefli46 минут бұрын

@TheCzemerda3 сағат бұрын
If a boat is sinking then you definitely don’t want to stay on until it goes under. It would seem like the right move to stay onboard and avoid having to swim and waste energy until you have to, but when a boat sinks below the surface completely and starts to drop to the bottom it creates a suction force that can easily pull you down with it as long as it’s still dropping. The bigger the boat is the stronger the pull on your body will be and it could drag you to a depth you can’t swim out of or even to a depth that your body can’t handle
@Argomundo6 сағат бұрын
2:30 and you didnt even question how that video was shot. Edit: since I probably have to make this clear. If that was shot from a boat, which is likely. Then that boat is also moving with the waves, exaggerating the movement of the platform.

I don’t have necessarily have thalassophobia, but my fear is just drowning with nobody to help me and getting stranded at sea is what truly scares me, and don’t get me started on cave diving, you wouldn’t catch me dead doing that, and same goes for spelunking, people do it probably for the thrill, but your life is way more important than seeking the thrill of claustrophobic caves especially underwater

Whenever you have videos of people jumping into deep water, I think about a young guy who visited my school as a child. He was paralyzed after jumping into the ocean from a height and landing directly on a sea turtle that just happened to swim right in that spot. Soooo unlucky but he talked about how even in water you know really really well there can be new unknown obstacles etc.

13:05 I used to work at the zoo in my hometown, and one of my jobs was to clean the aquarium glass. In order to get the supplies I had to go upstairs to find it and that just so happened to be where the top of the fish and shark tanks were. I always got the worst intrusive thoughts of accidentally falling into the shark one. This clip just gave me that same feeling 😰
