I'm a long-haul trucker. I had a fraud alert lock my debit card. I was 4 days into a 3 week run. I had about 50 dollars cash. And a couple days of food and water in the truck. I was forced to pull a cash advance off my fuel card,which is expensive to do. All the bank said is we're sorry. They wouldn't even let me go to an atm before shutting the card down. Needless to say now I keep several cards from different banks. And more cash on hand.

Having worked in banking for 36 years, I understand that the error likely occurred when the teller entered the check as $4000 instead of $400.00. This would result in the teller's balance being off by $400 at the end of the day, depending on the keystrokes made. It's puzzling why the bank didn't address the discrepancy when the teller was out of balance. The Bank Operations Department should have caught the mistake, as their records would also be affected. Typically, such an error should be rectifiable within a day. A 10-day delay is unreasonable and reflects poorly on the bank's procedures.
@Whatare428 күн бұрын
Not necessarily. Checks amounts are not entered manually anymore. Scanners scan the check and his chicken scratch handwriting looked like 4000 instead of 400. Of course, the amount can be adjusted to correct errors but if not looking at the legal, it stayed as is. Therefore the teller would not have been out of balance. Unfortunately, errors like this occur all the time and usually aren’t caught until the person looks at their account.
@alroberts19328 күн бұрын
@@Whatare4 Indeed, back office operations can identify such mistakes the following day. It's accurate that scanners are now utilized for check deposits. However, as mentioned, the back office is expected to detect any discrepancies the next day due to the checks and balances in place, which verify whether the branch's deposits or withdrawals are balanced.
