I was nearly feeling sick while cashiering at one job and got them to relieve me so I could go to the bathroom to go vomit. Apparently several customers heard me doing it for a while and told management as when I came out a manager checked on me. I then started to nearly pass out at the register when one of the managers came over and told me they were sending me home. Probably good that they did that. I was not steady on my feet and had a high fever until I took some Tylenol. It was the flu and I probably gave it to every customer in my line and every employee I interacted with. I was sick for a week and a half.

And none of this is the managers fault. Decisions like these come from way over there head. And the people who makes these choises dont care what the department managers think. No do they actually converse with rank and file employees. if you did manage to talk to one of the decision makers, they would smile warmly and give you some corporate nonsence propaganda. Or try to say its what's best for evryone. In reality they think its goid for the bottom line. Sadly thats short turm gains, not long term. They dont understand that disgruntled employees hurt them. That a lack of loyalty hurts them, that stressed employees hurt them, and that high turnover hurts them. Agian, they only care about short turm gains. And until people stop working for them, it wont ever change, and sence there will always be people desprit enough to tolerate it, this will always happen. And tgis isn't even the worst. Look at wallmart, they treat there people like crap. Yet people still work there.

I worked two part time jobs for about 6 months after the one I had worked at for close to 10 years threatened to cut my coworker. I switched to part time and picked up another job that actually paid alot more per hour. Fast forward six months, and the department manager for the first job started to make completely redundant requirements on service calls, like writing out what was done, what parts were used, etc. I'd already had been doing that for literally years before on the online system. I straight up told him I wasn't doing it because it's completely redundant and a waste of time. I still like the guy, but I gave my notice after the other job offered me a full time spot with a pay raise.

I remember getting a PTF (Part time Flexible!!) job with the USPS. I worked 12 hours a day 6 days a week for the first 3 years and slept on Sunday. Then all PTFs got cut to 25 hours a week ... Until I made full time, which took about 3 more months. If I hadn't been so tired from working so much for the 1st 3 years I would've been mad. But I had saved up most of my disposable income because I was too tired, after working 12 hours a day, to go out and spend any money. Literally only spent on rent, food, petrol and electricity for 3 years!!

That nonsense about making someone cover your shift? That is the manager’s job. Policies like that show how companies put weak managers in place and protect them with bad policies. Requesting a doctor’s note for a single sick day is both intimidation and retaliation. I still have to remind employees who have come from toxic work culture that I don’t need a note if they’re sick for a day or two.

Because when you started working, unions were still strong and the war on workers was not as advanced as it is now. A 20 to 30 year career with one company, a vested pension, and a steady increase in your annual wage was normal. The working class was duped into thinking that they weren't workers but business associates of their bosses, and that unions were their enemies that did nothing but take their dues.

Supply and demand. Back in our day there was less competition for jobs so bosses had to sweeten the deal. Then women entered the work force and doubled the amount of people vying for jobs, then 30 million illegals added more downward pressure. People think they are competing with their bosses, when they are actually competing against all the folks who would do their job for less.
