Managua Arrival

If you enjoy the view from the cockpit of a modern corporate business jet, you’ll like this relatively short video of our descent and landing in Managua, Nicaragua. This video represents a first in a few categories, including being the first time I’d ever landed in Nicaragua. It was also the first international flight with my brand-new colleague, Captain Sam. Additionally, it was the first time I attempted to record any flying footage in the G650ER since we upgraded to that aircraft. Yes, I’d been remiss in doing this for several reasons, but mainly just having been overwhelmed these last two years with other projects and priorities. Filming in this aircraft also required a different mounting apparatus for each of the two cameras, both of which were newer replacements for my old video equipment. One camera was a replacement for an old Sony Sport I lost last year on a scuba diving excursion (my first of 50 dives to take place in the continental USA). The other camera was a replacement for an ancient sport camera made by a company called Contour.
But I was finally ready on that day’s flight to Managua (or so I thought) with two newer GoPro Hero models and the mounting gear required for them along with the correct accessory and cable needed to capture the ship’s communications via the jump seat’s audio panel.
But . . . this couyon forgot to plug the audio cable into the jump seat’s headphone jack. Another failure on the day was the overheating and subsequent shut down of the camera mounted on the dash. I guess it was pretty warm in that spot with the sunlight coming down through the aircraft windshield. I’m still getting familiar with the GoPro brand, and I had not expected nor ever experienced that kind of issue before. I’ll have to think about making an effort to mitigate the possibility of that reoccurring on future attempts.
But even with the two recording screwups, I decided I’d edit in some good music to go along with the footage that was captured . . . although sans the cockpit audio. I hope you’ll put on some good earbuds or headphones and find this to be a few minutes of worthy entertainment with a great soundtrack.
