Did you forget about The Carter Family? Kitty, as amazing as she was, didn't start it all for women in country music. If you're talking airplay nationally, then that is something I don't have enough data to comment on. Glad you're a fan of this style. I hope you're going to shows. Lots of great female country singers out there who aren't famous and playing bars/clubs.
@taylorhauntus3 ай бұрын
@@someguy4505 as groundbreaking as Maybelle and Sarah were, they didn't manage to open the industry's doors for female country singers right after them. Well, in the late 20s and 30s there really wasn't an industry to begin with. That changed in the late 40s and especially in the 1950s. Kitty was the first female country artist to consistently chart hit after hit and soon after others followed: Goldie Hill, Skeeter Davis, Jean Shepard, Patsy Cline and on and on into the 1960s. We neeeded that one female sensation to start it all in the 1950, and she was there to deliver.

A great singer... a great song! I found this: ""It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" is a 1952 country song written by J. D. "Jay" Miller, and recorded by Kitty Wells. It was an answer song to the Hank Thompson hit "The Wild Side of Life." The song -which blamed unfaithful men for creating unfaithful women- became the first No. 1 Billboard country hit for a solo woman artist. In addition to helping establish Wells as country music's first major woman star, "It Wasn't God..." paved the way for other women artists, particularly Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Jean Stafford (Australia),[2] and songs where women call out unfaithful men. It was preserved by the National Recording Registry in 2007.

@@rollnrocksteve Lack of money in Real Country Music I do believe, there's more INSTANT cash available for the pathetic ' three word screechers' of today, backed by equally incompetent idiots plunking guitars, they make the hit parade because those who operate the Studios ( thus the music choices), have little knowledge of any style of music, also the impressionable 'young' folk who are ardent radio listeners,(albeit on the earbuds and Smart Phones) believe what they hear, if they are told 'THis is Great Music, they sadly believe it, the lack of ability in discernment is rampant today.There are, however, a good selections of REAL COUNTRY music groups available on the net, it's a matter of seeking it out from the garbage unfortunately, be patient and you'll find it.

Superb. Absolutely classic country music ! Unlike most of the 'Country' music now shoveled on us from Mashville, this is music that will never die.

Was 15 at the time song came out. Tow years before I went into the Navy. Used to dance to this on the strip out side Naval Base at Little Creek, VA, You don't hear good country music like this any more.

simply brilliant as a child in the 50;s my dad had this on 78 rom in AUstralia always liked but just saw a clip which explained it was in response to a song put out where women were blamed by the singer for marriage breakdowns and never realised it was the first country No1 by a female artist ♥ (special)
