If Mance was still a sworn brother when Jon was a kid, he 100% knows Ben Stark and knows him well. Moreover, if Mance was one of the brothers who travelled, it opens the door for him to know a lot more people south of wall than you would think and to have been active in (or at least aware of) the conspiracy shenanigans before and during the rebellion. We know that Aemon was all up in that mess by correspondence at minimum. I feel like Charlie looking for Pepe Silva right now, but there is an entirely plausible Ocean's 11 plot here in the background just waiting to be found.

Bael the Bard called himself something obvious in the old tongue like "thief" to the King of Winterfell before he stole the daughter and left her with a son. Ygrite tells Jon this story specifically. Interesting tie in to the Freys, when big plus little walder play Lord of the Crossing with Bran watching, the rules are if you say "mayhaps" the promises you make do not count. So if Mance calls himself Raider like Bael called himself thief, then Mance can raid or steal with less punishment from the gods he believes in. Old gods or Great Other or Tully River gods for all I know

What’s with the Stark Ladies having a weakness for music that ends in turmoil? We got 1) Brandon Stark’s daughter getting seduced by Bael the Bard and then their kid (according to story/rumor) grows up to kill his own father during a wildling raid 2) Lyanna Stark running off with Rhaegar Targaryen after hearing him sing which is the direct cause of Robert’s Rebellion and 3) Sansa being so enamored with love stories in songs she’s heard (songs sung by Mance Rayder?) that her desire to be like one of the maidens in those songs is a big catalyst in the downfall of her family

Dang I gotta get my part 3 out. I almost commented when you listed the reasons to send the president, but you eventually got to what i was gonna say which is key: The president send himself because his public political program does not necessarily match all of his ultimate plans and dealings. Mance is up to things the free folk can't know. I have ideas about what he was really looking for in the frost fangs and what he might look for at Winterfell, but I also like your idea that he could be hiding the Horn of Winter there, to keep it from the others. Makes perfect sense.

There are some interesting possibilities in here. Some that make sense if I'm correct and Benjen is hiding in the Crypts, and is the Hooded Man that Theon sees. First, old theory, Mance actually came all the way up from KL. He was technically there to deliver the package containing the myrish eye and note from Lysa. Your connection to Benjen is actually interesting and one I'd like to see explored more. First of all it's reasonable to assume Gared was sent with the pregnant direwolf, by Coldhands. It's interesting for a number of reasons that might not fit in thus comment. I'll summerize them by pointing put the fact Sam was sent by Coldhands to retrieve Bran and the possibility Gared was to deliver direwolf pups. Coldhands works for a LC, Brynden. We are told Rangers keep disappearing. Some may be dead, but others like Gared, Sam, Mance, and Ben may be running missions for Coldhands/BR. It's even possible BR gave Mance the mission to build the Wildling army. If Benjen was found by Coldhands and asked to return to Winterfell to be the Stark in Winterfell (hidden) until Bran returned, it may make sense in the context if this video. Mance could have done this to secretly meet with and plan with Benjen. There's a possible Jon layer in there, but I'll avoid it for the moment as this is getting long.

I didn’t hear any mention of the horn found with the cache of dragon glass weapons! I can’t remember if Sam (from Horn Hill) has it still or not. This theory is fun and connects to one of my greatest disappointments from the show: the ultimate non-importance of the crypts of winterfell. Also I feel like the potential power of Rhaegar and the harp could have been examined more. Especially since the Stark ladies have a soft spot for music.

If yall ever look for another series to analyze/theorize about I highly recommend the Second Apocalypse by R. Scott Bakker My greatest pitch for the series is imagine a political fantasy as good as Ice & Fire, but if all the most crackpot theories ended up true. The author is a bit more high fantasy than George, but just as good at plot twists, existentialism, foreshadowing and cosmic horror. Reading the 7 books that are currently out genuinely feels like building up to and then actually getting a crazy Winds of Winter. It's a great read for pleasure as is, but there's also at least one more book in the works so there is a LOT to theorycraft with. Though no KZbinrs have really jumped on it despite the series' recent spike in popularity.

I have a good one! He took the oldest sword from the Winterfell crypts! This sword would have been placed on Bran the Builder's statue. Ned notes that the oldest swords are missing when he brings Robert down to the crypts. He thinks that they had rusted away, leaving only a red streak, but that streak would still be there if the sword was just removed by someone, as evidenced when Theon noticed the swords that Bran & co took leaving the same red rust streak. Mance could have gone down into the crypts before them once Robert's party had arrived while Robert is meeting the Stark family in the courtyard. All eyes would have been on this gathering, giving him a small window to slip into the crypts before Ned & Robert go down there. Why would he take the sword, you ask? Well, this is my national treasure theory..... He came to Winterfell thinking he would find the Horn of Winter hidden in the crypts. Book quote.... We never found the Horn of Winter. We opened half a hundred graves and let all those shades loose in the world, and never found the Horn of Joramun to bring this cold thing down! -Ygritte to Jon Snow Perhaps Bran the builder's grave was one of those graves that they opened in an attempt to find it. It would make sense to hide it somewhere where the wildlings could not access it, but the Starks could if the need ever arose to fell the wall. (Another pun on Winterfell's name) What better grave to hide the horn that can bring down the wall in than the grave of the guy who built the damn thing! When Mance gets to Brandon's crypt, he doesn't find the Horn, but discovers some sort of inscription on the sword or the statue indicating the location of the horn. Some have theorized that the horn is actually frozen in the wall. Perhaps the builder's sword is some sort of key needed to access the part of the wall that contains the horn, so Mance takes it with him. The wildlings don't appear to still be searching grave sites north of the wall after this point, or at least when Jon joins them. Maybe this is because they now know that the horn isn't in a grave, but is frozen somewhere in the wall & they need that sword to access it. Just a kooky thought. Let me know what you guys think!
